Yes, Star Hill was official. I guess I was trying to forget that. The local tent did have many other offerings. If I remember correctly there were Green Flash for sale which I didn't understand at all. And I think they were selling for $12.

The Starr Hill Grateful Pale Ale isn't too bad. Refreshing on a hot day. But I find their IPA to be dreadful.

At a fest/concert/game, I'd say $12 is acceptable for Green Flash. Would limit me to one, though.

Sue drank the last of the Pliny clone last night. It was pretty amazing. Fear not; I'll be brewing up another batch in late July. It's suppose to be drunk feash anyway because the sheer amount of hops...well, the esters degrade relatively quickly. I figure if I do the boil and get it into primary fermentation on or about July 24th, it should be just perfect for Lockn'.
We only have one 48 oz stainless steel growler, so it'll be tasters only; first come, first served. Bring your own cup.

It is produced in Lake Placid N,Y at Lake Placid pub n brewery if drank in house three 24 Oz drafts is my limit out of the bottle a six pack is as good as I can do. If you ever get to Placid stop in to the stake n sea food they offer a "we heavy" it's only 18% by the pint and you are regulated on consumption. Nice restaurant not just a bar the pub n brewery however eat drink be merry. I have sampled every single brew offered by these two brew pubs and highly recommend you all do the same.

So, I only have a little bit of homebrew experience (and not current) but I am a little confused by this. My understanding has always been that hops acted as a preservative? These two brew pubs offer a rack it's 6 different brews. That's how I found out about wee heavy in the first place.

Precisely.
With modern sanitation and bottling techniques, the hops aren't even necessary as a preservative anymore. When I first cracked that batch to see if it was conditioned, my whole kitchen was engulfed in hop aroma and the flavor smacked me upside the head. Within a week, it was still excellent but less unearthly (see what I did there?). Within two, it was only as good as something midrange off the shelf.
Since I had the hubris to brag about it, I kinda feel like it's gotta hsve the "wow" factor.

Which is why the "best" IPA is usually one that is brewed close to you and you can consistently get fresh. Drink a 6 month old Heady Topper or a really fresh local IPA and the local probably wins. Even tho drinking both fresh and it's the HT every time.

Just got what turned out to be a skunked six of Ithaca Flower Power on Sunday. I'm as pissed the brewery as I am at the store. They have a little freshness dating thing on the label, and none of it was checked off.

once in awhile it will get served at small local festivals or restaurants. good stuff... and it comes in cans

Bad news: due to circumstances beyond my control, not all of the ingredients for the Pliny clone will be available in time to have it ready for Lockn'. I suppose I could tweak the recipe or make something else, but I'm so disappointed that I just don't feel like it. Think I'll take the rest of the summer off and concentrate on finding really dank stuff in cans.

Bummer. I got a 6er of Blue Mountain Full Nelson IPA from right there in Nelson County VA last week at The BIG What?. It was ok but kind of blended in with the Ballast Point Big Eye IPA. Both were better than the Blowing Rock IPA. Also took some Founders Centennial, 21st Amendment Bitter American and my old stand by Sierra Nevada Pale.

Founder's All Day is a great all day beer. I haven't seen them but I can't wait to get some Founders Centennial IPAin 12 oz cans.
Word.
Oh, and I will still have some home-brewed federweisser. It's too simple not to make. Of course, it's sorta like a higher-quality Boone's farm, so there's that...
