Bruce Hornsby Infinity Downs 4/29 Roll Call

Unfortunately, we will not be there.

At Revivalists, I don't think there were more than 200 people.  Didn't even fill the gravel semicircle in front of the stage. Zero wait for food, beer, and bathrooms.

of course, the weather forecast was 100% chance of rain and that probably kept people away.  But it didn't rain at all, though the temps dropped to the 40's. Weather looks way better for Hornsby, plus all those cute animals.

Campgrounds opened at noon on Saturday so we roll in about 11:45, no one in front of us. Roll through first checkpoint and get to campground which is the High Field area. No one is there except Danny the camp boss and three cars setting up tents. Danny said where do you want to park , gravel or grass. I chose grass. Do you want cut grass or uncut grass? Let's go with the cut grass. I literally had acres and acres of land to choose from. Used to Lockn where they have painted lines for your space so this was refreshing. I find the primo spot on top of the hill, grassy, level with a view of the mountains and set up. Fifteen minutes later a truck rolls in, husband and wife, (high school principal it turns out), and starts to set up right on top of us! I'm like really...hundreds of acres and you want to park here?? So no worries they start setting up their tent (including reading the instructions how to do it). Halfway through I walk over, introduce myself and ask if they enjoy loud music late at night. Why do you ask? Because I parked here so that I could turn my music up and party late night. If you stay here you WILL hear it. They kind of halfway laughed it off but chose not to move. You sir have been warned, nothing else I need to do here. I even invited them to join us but they chose not to do so. Ended up they slept right through the melee so no problems.



Was a little bit concerned that the campgrounds were basically empty because I want these events to be a success so that they will continue. Went in to the venue and tasted wine for a while (wine and heat are not a great mix...be careful) and the venue was still fairly empty, fine by me. First person I ran into was hondo's friend Tricky Ricky. We hung out for a while and then parted ways. As the afternoon wore on it began to fill up and there were maybe 3 or 400 people by the time Bruce came on. I'm not good at crowd estimations so I could be off but there was lots of room to move around. Only notable changes to the Blue Ridge Bowl were that there is a gravel covered semicircle in front of the stage. No more mud pit in the front when it rains. There was fencing all around but don't know how much of it will remain for Lockn. I suspect all of it. There was also a small VIP viewing area with a tent up the hill and off to the left. Hopefully this is larger for Lockn.

Bruce's set was just what I expected. Him and his Steinway. Played a few of his hits, lots of stuff I had never heard and NO Dead tunes. It was just exactly perfect. He was very relaxed and engaging with the crowd. Felt weird to be at a sit down show but it was cool.



After the show there was a meet and greet with Bruce. I'm normally not into that kind of thing but it came with the ticket so what the hell. We actually have a mutual friend as my friend and Bruce played in a band called Bobby Hi-Test and the Octane Kids back in 1974 so it gave me an intro for a brief conversation that was not in the least awkward and Bruce was actually very interested in what I had to say. We took the obligatory picture and moved on. Met Mary Beth and Staci who work on Dave's team and spoke briefly to Dave Frey, very briefly. Anyway great day on the farm and look forward to Keller Williams on June 2. Peace...

IDK, maybe some people are so used to being packed into cramped camping spaces, it feels awkward spreading out.

Sounds nice, TOO. ROFL over your camp neighbors. I really wanted to be there, but probably a good thing we didn't go as Charlie got called into work at about 1 p.m. Sunday. Work is almost 2 hrs. from our house. Fingers crossed to be at Community Day. Hopefully attendance will be good.

Tricky texted me right after you two ran into each other. I wish I could have gone, but had obligations with the kiddo's summer swim team and had to get my lawn mowed before heading to Columbus for the week for a work meeting. Really, really want to go to Keller, but on the next day, I have summer swim obligations at 8:00 am. Don't think I will make that.
