$4000 plus 25% of sales for Garcia's (edited) spot
You sell grilled cheese for $8, $6 of which goes towards your fees
60 hours of sales opportunities
You need to sell 666 grilled cheese to cover just your fees
You need to sell 11 grilled cheese an hour to cover fees, not including travel costs, cost of supplies, travel, employees, etc.
I can see where this would be a difficult decision to vend or not.

Honestly maybe I'm not the best person to comment on this thread, but without some context, I have no idea if this is a large amount or not.
Not to you specifically, but I thought the whole point of sale thing was optional and vendors could still do their own payments. Or maybe its just optional from the end user's end? But they can still collect cash...
I do think that somehow Lockn needs to tighten up on the taxes thing, the meal taxes for Nelson Co. and just taxes more generally. I'm not sure I have a good solution to that either.

PS One festival (Firefly) is going totally cashless this summer and I suspect most, including Lockn, will follow suit in the future.

I've noticed lately at concert venues the vendors have to enter every sale into a tablet. Huge waste of time and causes big back logs. A $8 beer is an $8 beer. Then the young 'uns who don't carry cash have to charge everything. So while I personally don't like cashless, it will be better overall.

I personally know of 1 vendor who will not be at Lockn this year due to their cost/fee structure. I know a couple more who will be there but they have serious doubts about turning a profit and this could well be their last year. It's certainly a debatable point but I feel that the quality and variety of vendors at any given Festival are integral to the whole "experience" - much like the quality and variety of music at a given festival - they sort of go hand in hand. It's my understanding that Lockn has kept the same price this year for vendors BUT halved their space (your 10 x 20 last year is now a 10 x10). That'll guarantee you less vendors. Personally, I'd much rather see lower costs for the non food and drink folks, seems to me that option/opportunity would stimulate and encourage more local and regional participation, add more variety and vitality. I can't be the only one who sees the entire vending situation shrinking year by year. I'd much rather see a Farmer's Market in the field at Lockn rather than a McDonalds but it's getting to where I can see the day of corporate festival vending coming.
