That's the same rationale we use to go VIP. It's also nice to have a hassle-free entry to the show field. As with you, will re-evaluate based on this year's set up. Went GA for L1, SVIP for L2, and VIP for L3, L4, and soon to be L5. Loved the SVIP but just couldn't justify the cost compared to VIP.

I choose VIP for the camping facilities, since I hang out in GA a lot with my F&F. Second priority was being closer to the show field. Being solo, the price difference is worth it; might not be if I were buying multiples.

So for me the VIP advantage stays about the same. But I really liked being on the steeplechase hill and if VIP camping is in the low country I might reconsider too.

the hard part is basing your ticket purchase based on the previous years setup/amenities. Even if VIP is not worth it this year when you get there it has no bearing at all on what next year might be.
