From what I understand it will continue for now - meaning 2018. Phil definitely had a 5 year contract with Shapiro and LOCKN. For whatever reason it was not renewed and Shapiro wanted out. I’m guessing the thing was just not nearly as profitable as they had hoped. So Frey needed some backup and got in touch with the Floyd Fest guys to see if they could keep it going.

I know for a fact Frey has close to a 3 million dollar mortgage on the farm. I’ve looked this up in Nelson county public records, so to say he’s vested would be an understatement.

We’ll see what shakes out in the coming weeks and months.

I think if it was profitable Shapiro would still be in. I think it probably just isn't profitable.

That said, I really think the idea of Lockn' is great (no overlapping sets). I just think that in the current festival lineup and the need to grab all the people you can, they may need to expand more and try to add a few stages/tents with some alternatives for people.

I work in the real estate industry around Central Virginia. I've looked at the Circuit Court records in Nelson County. There is a 3 million dollar lien (mortgage) on the Farm under Frey and Shapiro's LLC. This is completely separate from what the property is assessed at.

Lockn has not been profitable, causing a shift in the investors over the past couple of years. it's logical that those shifts could include or lead to a change in the promoters/managers. So from what I know, I find Althea's base line rumor to be likely. I don't know about the Frey side one way or the other, and am still not convinced about the 5 year Phil deal.

And yes with the right digging you can find mortgage amounts in public land records.

The base rumor of this thread--that Pete Shapiro is out of Lockn, is not true.

Also, there was no five year contract between Lockn and Phil Lesh and thus it did not expire.

This from most knowledgeable and reliable source (whom I won't ID).
