ADA was small and it was mostly full from what I remember but it could be expanded. It is that triangle right by the entrance. I would be in contact with them and work on getting some assurances that they are going to provide adequate space.

The farthest car camping last year is the nearest this year. Depending on how deep you're in, it's probably between a mile/mile and a half to the stage. People like to say it's two miles, but I think our imaginations have run away with us (I fully expect some debate now). The racetrack, which the stages are on the inside of, are down in a little bowl, which is hard to see in the pic because the surrounding mountains are so much more intimidating that you lose perspective. It's not really that bad of a climb, and probably less than a quarter mile. If you're walking, np. If you regularly ride bike in any hilly terrain, you should be able to get up it no problem.

I just had difficulty because I have trouble walking after standing for long periods of time, and it proved too difficult to carry lawn chairs on a bike. Now I'll be camped (hopefully) right by the main stages and can also take advantage of the disabled viewing platforms.



For your convenience, I've highlit the part of the path with the grade coming in/out of the "bowl" in red. The part in yellow also has a slight grade. The yellow part ends about where the gigantic oak is. Across the road from there is tent camping (last year car camping I), and beyond that is car camping I (last year car camping II). There's also a monster of a climb out of car camping one to get to the tree. If you're walking it's nbd, nor if you're a very experienced hill-climbing cyclist. There's also a road from car camping I that goes around that hill so it's much flatter, but they discourage pedestrians for safety reasons. We got around this by riding our bikes on it, which are considered vehicles under VA Commonwealth law. If you're going to ride the road at night, however, you must have a headlight and at least a rear reflector (taillight is better) on your bike or person.

If I weren't going to be in ADA with the hubby and his bad ankle, I probably would have chosen to fork over the extra cash for forest camping. The car wouldn't be terribly far away, so I could still lock up my guitar, but it doesn't involve the very long travel to the stage that comes with car camping. You still have to deal with the bowl, but don't have to add a mile or longer walk or bike ride on top of that to get back to camp.

I agree with you 100%.  It a lot of cash this year, but still worth it.  I have back issues from a few car crashes and walking and standing are an issue.   Being that close last year made my Lock'n experience much better.  I was afraid it may sell out so I got my ticket and campsite 5 min after they went on sale.    

It was really cool, each morning at sound check became my alarm clock.  The only real problem with being there was the walk to the triangle stage.  Paid one of those taxi cars a few times.

No worries folks.. plenty of Golf Cart Taxi's for five bucks, along with a few other unofficial vehicles popped up for me. Proved to be yet another nice way of making friends and as fun as a carnival ride.

Where I live it's $4 just to get in a real taxi for a total of fifteen bucks for a 2 mile ride and the cars smell like the portopots at Lockn.

omg, watching that video (and yes i did watch the entire thing) makes me want to be back there sooooooo bad

We walked to the triangle for Indecision ( which was great) and took the taxi back. We had to wait about 10 minutes at 3:00am, so not that bad of a wait. had so much fun I gave the driver an extra $5. I bet they will have even more golf carts this year.

Whatever you have to do to get there.

OK, I think I asked this on another thread and nobody knew for sure but it is possible to upgrade your tickets, or at least some of them. Thanks to the feedback here I upgraded from tent-only to preferred tent only camping.

it's definitely not possible to upgrade your admission ticket. i tried. wanted to upgrade ga to vip and they said that was not possible. seems odd they wouldn't want to take my money...
