I agree. It's hard to see, but it's worth looking for. Sure there are some aspects that are worse than 40 years ago but a lot more that are better. And this is true both globally and locally.

Makes me think about all the happy people I saw in the Third World living in crushing poverty, and people I know now who manage optimism despite terrible circumstances. Our society's attitude of entitlement has displaced gratitude and with it, joy.
