Well, I'll tell you one thing: I sure as shite ain't paying $6/month for their effing server to time out all the time. I tried going on the support forum to beeyotch, but no combination of my username/password were accepted. Convenient. I wish I'd been around when this forum was getting off the ground...

Here's the thing: web-hosting is pretty cheap nowadays, and phpBB bulletin board software is free and open source. We can get the hosting for $50/year or less, and that's less than I'm paying for the ads. I've set up phpBB sites before, so I'd be happy to do the "web design." This isn't a back-handed way of trying to become a mod, either - I'll gladly hand over the reigns to Dylan and sneake once it's set up. The only problem is we'd have to direct new people from this site, and we might lose the threads we have (I dunno for sure; I've never moved one, only started them). Also, I would ask that y'all contribute a couple of bucks every six months for the server cost, but with enough people it would be literally a couple of bucks. And then it would be truly OURS.

What say you mods? Members? Guests (nah, who cares:))? Maybe after this year's fest?

Until and if then, make a back-up copy of everything you type, unless you want to type it again!

I'm sorry, I've been working a lottttt of hours lately, and I just saw this post. This is definitely something I am interested in doing. We have a number of options available to us, and it sounds like you're more knowledgeable on the subject than I am. If we decide to go with a migration I would agree that it might be best to do it between years. I'll send you a PM and we can start a discussion.

I used to run a Medicinal Marijuana site a few years back and we first started out using phpbb on a shared webhost server. Phpbb is cheap no doubt, but I got tired of the spam and modules not working all the time. Phpbb is a pain in the arse for admins. Trust me.
Since my site's membership was growing, I decided to buy the Vbulletin v4 Suite software and I was amazed with it. vbulletin Forums software has all kinds of great features for the admins and members alike.

I don't run the MJ site anymore because of the conflict of interest pertaining to the job I have right now, but I still own the software. Since this site is still relatively young, just like mine was at one time, it shouldn't be too hard to get uploaded to new software.
I am willing to donate my Vbulletin v4 to this site for free.
