Thanks for sharing that. I did learn a few new terms. By the way I've never had any trouble understanding you but I have family from Southwest VA as well. Bluefield, Pearisburg and Peterstown, West VA to be more specific.

this is closer to the spirit, though long windedness doesn't necessarily signify complexity. My MIL prattles on but doesn't say much. I've taken the time to look for one in the past and nothing i have seen nails what i am after. 

And since we are largely talking big words, I really like sychophant. just means a brown-noser or a yes man, but most people don't know what it means so you can call someone it without anyone knowing what you are saying. at least until they look it up.

I like "obsequious" in that role.

I didn't realize that there was an actual term for this. A friend of our has this move mastered but we always called it the "Draper Slip"...

The old Irish goodbye.

I lost my buddy Jay in Baltimore one night. We were with a bunch of his friends at yet another bar when we decided to leave. I told Jay we were heading out and then went to look for stragglers. When I came downstairs with the last of our group  Jay was not waiting out front with everyone else. No one had seen him so we went back in and searched. No luck. We spent the next hour looking for him. I placed a locally famous phone call at drunk -thirty to our other buddy say "Dude, I lost Jay. What am I going to tell Mo?" I eventually gave up and decided that whatever had befallen him was not in my immediate vicinity and was therefore out of my control. So I went to Mahaffey's Pub and boozed it up till closing.  I eventually got back to the hotel and he was asleep in bed. He had headed down the stairs out the door and into a cab all in a single movement. If there had not been a cab with an open door I have no doubt we would have found him in the street. The next day was a challenge but that is another story.

There should be a similar term for when you injure yourself and yell those same profanities.  

I have this trait. When my reptilian brain gets sufficiently intoxicated, it removes me from the decision making process and directs my body to my bed. It’s nothing personal, just a count down to passing out and a race to avoid waking up in untidy environs.
