I'm happy to report that this thread gave us the final push. After much delay I just decided to go for it, we have cut the cord with Comcast, we're on the Hulu TV / Netflix / Amazon Prime train to the tune of saving us about $115/month. That's a lot of concerts.

Nope. With Comcast I pay $74.95/month for my internet. No taxes. No fees. No equipment rental. No vampires sucking my electric bill into a new tier. They keep calling me and asking me to come back to cable for a "special deal." I've said no repeatedly. When they ask me why, my answer is a very honest "Because I don't want to have to go through the hassle of calling to cancel when the deal ends."

Late to the discussion but going to add an option that hasn't been mentioned. Satellite subscription sharing. A number of people I know do this.
The downsides are: 1. You need to obtain and install the dish yourself(many tips to do this very cheap).
2. Only the subscription holder can order PPVs but all receivers can watch.
3. The receiver's EPG will show the subscriber's timezone and will not receive local channels.
I think my traveling companion's SD DTV receiver adds $5.00 per month to the bill.

In a previous life I was an expert in the field of satellite dish sales/service/installation. If you want to know if a satellite dish is an option for you I'd be happy to check again. I'm the one the satellite people go to for those difficult locations. If there is a spot I WILL find it.

Did this years ago, 3 of us split a sub. I ordered a free 4 room set up (4 dtv receivers) had them install 2 and dish in my house. Then I planted dishes, ran cable, etc. for the other guys. We took turns paying the bill.
