Lightweight Trailers

This is our festival home. Not quite as rugged, but it does the job nicely. Plus it has AC and a kick-ass kitchen.

Looking forward to having AC at Peach Festival this year!

I like these guys here, $10K and up...Turtleback Trailers

Depends on how fancy you want.  Can be as low as $5,000 or as high as $20,000 or more, depending on size and features.  I got mine used for $10,000 (with sink, stove, TV, AC, and nice craftsmanship).  No regrets.  And I can pull it with my Subaru Forester.  For me the decision to camp tiny was directly tied to being able to pull it with a car I already owned.

This is obviously for people that camp with their pets.

You would not need mad skills to build a plywood tear drop trailer.  Here is a typical step by step.

These are made by Chesapeake Lightcraft and Smose is right, stitch and glue (fiberglass). They are beautiful and I would love to build one and thought about it real hard. Saw a completed one at the Annapolis sailboat show and it is really cool, but might be kinda cosy for me and Dryw. Until you get air conditioning, I don't see a big advantage to trailers for my one to two festivals a year. A good tent and some set up gets you to the same place and you don't have to store and maintain anything or pay RV prices for about the same living space as a tent. If i was doing a cross country trip, not wanting to set up every night, it would make all the sense. YMMV.

Even with the vent on top, that thing seems like it would be an oven at a festival like lockn.

Compare that to a light and open tent, I'll take the tent every time.

And from looking at the manufacturer's website, they agree, bring a tent along with this to put over it! Kind of defeats the purpose to me.


Now, suebhunny's with built in AC is an entirely different story, I'd love to have that. I don't festival/camp enough to justify it though.

The people who tent camped at our RV site last year put an EZ Up over their tent to help beat the heat.  It's a good idea regardless of whether you are in a tent or a nicely crafted little trailer.
