Relix stage question with a grammatical coda
Post by augusteast on Jun 25, 2018 9:24:07 GMT -5
Thanks! I'm really just curious and I love researching this kind of thing as I prepare to be Lockn'ed!
(As a newbie, I know that this may have been discussed in other threads--but I'm not finding them.)
Also, for my fellow grammar nerds, why is there an apostrophe after the N? That makes no sense to me! In fact, it makes no sense, period. If anything, it should be Lock'n, the apostrophe standing in for the missing "e." There must be a reason. Maybe just Lockn' being Lockn'? (The plural of Lockn' is presumable Lockn's; is the possessive of a singular Lockn' festival "Lockn''s"?)
Cheers!

Also ... there's no such thing as overthinking! And while I'm at it: it never "is what it is." It's ALWAYS something else. (And I say this having spent many years in a serious Zen practice, sesshin and all!)
Cheers, y'all!

Last year the Relix stage struck me as odd, redundant, and a relic left over from the old race track years, but hey, that’s Lock’n (or Lockn or Locken).

Then they dropped the "i". Or the misspelled "e". So to be pedantic, it should be lock'n'. Or better, to represent the dropped introductory element "inter" call it 'lock'n'.
And thanks for the snack.

No more "hey, that was Tom Petty on the golf cart!"
This year they will push back deeper into that area to make the showfield larger and better sight lines, and I expect them to slant the main stage slightly away from Relix, too.

Last year was the first time for the two side by side stage config. It had a nice benefit of allowing us to get close to the daytime acts (Relix Stage) without competing with, for example, the SpreadHeads camping out at main stage rail all day.

I'm all about pedantry. Before posting, I did see that it was originally the Interlocken Music Festival, which of course would make it Lock'n. Your point is fascinating: it was supposed to "represent" ... the idea (??) or the word (??) "interlocking." In that case the apostrophe(s) are not representing actual letters that have been removed (i, g) but rather suggesting ghost letters that existed only as a thought. Cool! (This kind of thing interests me; I'm not as worked up as I may sound.)
I'm glad to know about Garcia's stage. I didn't know about that. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts on the Relix stage. I'm comfortable with whimsy and confusion and anarchy--but I'm also curious about the logic of Lockn', such as it is.

It's gotten marginally better over the past couple of years but you learn not to expect what you are promised.
