If I could add one artist to the 2023 lineup: Here Come the Mummies

I camped in the forest area last year. Arrived late Thursday morning and was lucky to find a spot to camp.
What time should I get in line to get a decent spot? What is the system - are you on the side of the road, or do they let you queue up on site?

Sorry, I was off the grid when you posted and couldn't respond. For forest camping I would say the earlier the better. Even though the gates open at 6 am there will be people arriving just after midnight I think. You are not on the side of the road, you will be staged inside of the track. We have camped in tent-only every year and we get there 4:30ish a.m. and there are usually four or five rows of vehicles already lined up in the holding area. Even with the inevitable sometimes random order of actually heading to the car search area, we've had the pick of any camp space we've wanted.

Welcome to the board! Might want to show up earlier if you can to increase your chances of finding a good spot in the forest. Damn I was planning on showing up around 9 AM. I guess I'll show up earlier.

I also am arriving on Friday. I did the same last year and it worked out although we were in a slightly different area. Might be shifted to car camping if nothing is available.

One issue in years past was that the festival staff did not police the set-up in forest or check passes so it truly became a first come/first served land grab.
I recall some fencing and gates last year so maybe they are watching it.

Yea, they had fencing and gates, as well has yellow tape strung up, but all that was only to mark areas you could NOT camp (walkways and uncleared brush areas in the far back). So it was still a free-for-all for the space left.
Last year they also had the 'Lumni forest camping, and it was VERY sparsely populated. It doesn't look like they're doing that this year, so maybe they're planning to use it for overflow for regular forest campers. The space is still there on the map but not marked as anything.

The Festival assures every camper they will have the SQ feet of what they pay for. I heard fam complaining about my camp which had no EZ up next to a tent on a sliver, I put up solar lights around the four trees and told my neighbors on each side if they needed space or the lights got bothersome to let me know and I can re adjust. I had a change room a 7x9 tent a few chairs and a small pop up as folks I knew might show later in the fest (Well under 205'sq + there were stumps under the woodchips that were unusable). Forrest should give you 205'square. I am bringing a tape measure this year to prove area. If you show up and don't see a spot gotta let official LOCKN folks know, they are the ones that took the cash for the 205 so it's up to them to find you the 205. They sometimes let people line up before 6am Toll Gates officially open at Sunrise, so usually a bit after 6am. Like others have said things change from year to year. I stayed till 5am at a gas station a few miles away, when I stopped there for a fill up I met fam there who said Police weren't letting anyone in and ripping cars apart if you tried to get near the entrance - They were looking for two fugitives in there defense that had been suspected of GTA and homicide with the Cville Nazi incident a few weeks before L5 as well. 4-5am arrival if they let a line form outside the venue, if not then official gate time 6am. Last year the entry was a maze of back roads for cars it led out to the horse track which used to be the main show field. Keeps less traffic on the hwy. I got confirmation from Lockn via Facebook that there is NO 'lumni camping of any sort. Kind of a bummer because the whole reason I bought Forest camping was for the Lumni Forest, which looked amazing (and empty!). I'll be arriving around 7-8 pm Thursday driving up from Atlanta, so hopefully the Forest won't be too packed. I figure there will be plenty of folks arriving Friday with Weekend passes. They also haven't confirmed what happens if you arrive after 9 pm (which is a possibility for me if there is traffic,etc), but you definitely CANNOT enter the campgrounds, they told me. I told them I might be arriving at 9 pm and still want to be able to catch JRAD Thursday night, but they won't even confirm if I'll be able to get IN the venue and leave my car in some kind of parking until 6 am when I can get through to set up camp. They said they'll check with their manager and get back to me.

Hey, does anyone have pics of their Forest Camp setup? I'm trying to see what 200 sq feet looks like.
Do people put up tarps tied to trees as rain cover? Is there room for a 10x10 tent and and 10x10 EZ up (I guess that would be 200sq feet, right (if my math is correct)? I'm honestly still trying to decide if I want to do Forest Camping since I've done Car Camping all four years I've been (love the convenience, not having to lug anything very far, etc.) Also, I'm arriving late evening Thursday, so I'm becoming a bit worried about how space will be when we get there? Will we have to trek to the back of the forest for a tiny sliver, etc?
Basically, lemme hear your pros/cons of forest and see your sweet setups!

When you park somewhere today, imagine your setup on that parking stall. Most codes require 9 x 18 or 10 x 20.
