God looking back the camping is sooo spread out it's hard to imagine walking that far to the main venue....was easily a half mile walk if not more...you can barely make out the small triangle forest area..

That's pretty neat! My buddy was invited to work Lockn starting tomorrow the 14th until the 29th. Pay isn't great around $10-11 an hr with onsite camping, access to shower facilities, and 3 meals a day plus you get a free 4 day wristband and don't have to work during the actual festival. He ended up turning it down to work some other shows here in Wilmington instead and is just gonna come as a spectator this year.

we tried to do that, there was a Lockn staffer/volunteer sitting right next to the ice who stopped us. He also wouldnt sell to us because "nobody knew how much to charge, where to send the money, etc.". I suppose with better slick talking we could have talked him into surrendering the goods but it was hot and we were desperate, couldn't make it happen. When we finally found it we felt like a million bucks tho.

I did, and I'd do it again. Between 11 hours in the FOBD and being banished to Outer Slobobia I was pretty hot about there being no ice (see what I did there?). They were supposed to open at 10am; we waited until 10:45. All that time in a hot car the day before and the situation was dire. Dude should've secured his shit better, too. Amidst cheers and applause I stashed that shit in my backpack and rode off on my bike. Fast.

I didn't go to L1 but went to L2; it was just as spread out with the main difference being the stage at the other end of the racetrack circle. Not only spread out but in the dark impossible to find your way around. Was there ever any insight into why they moved it from the track?

yes, lots of insight. But little knowledge.
Money, obviously, including economy by consolidating the stage/sound production geographically.
Setting up on land they own, so leasing the racetrack just for parking would be cheaper than setting up facilities and restoring it.
The shorter walking distances to the music was another reason I was told.
