Great info.
Last year I arrived Thursday around 3 pm going south on 29 and found 29 very confusing; they weren't directing traffic and had opened up a number of U-turns south of the entrance, but you couldn't tell if they were really open, so I went too far south, then coming north, the main entrance was not marked and no traffic directors so I went back and forth then came in a side road. traffic was light. Took a little while to get in.
Also, this summer I went to the area from Norfolk/Richmond and had a good drive on 60w to 56w. But it might get difficult when you get to the venue area due to rerouting; I plan to study this new info on the small road closings and come in that way. Also 56 is two lane.

56 is very curvy and narrow. Do not do at night if you are not a local.

Yes, 56 is not recommended, especially at night and if you're towing anything. Aside from the curves, you WILL come across deer all over the road. Had to slam on the brakes about 3 or 4 times because of deer last time I went that way at night. 56 is very curvy and narrow. Do not do at night if you are not a local.

Not sure what the problem was yesterday but I hope they get it resolved. We were coming down 151 and stopped at Devils Backbone for lunch. We headed south on 151 and hit traffic. They had to have had a portion of 29 shut down. I think it was 672 where they were detouring. From there it was a solid 5 miles backed up down towards Piney River and then it was solid moving traffic that just hadn't hit the wall yet all the way to 29 at Apple Market and the Exxon at Amherst. Then 29 was backed up for a mile or 2. They definitely had 29 closed off there.

I was poking around on the local news stations to see if any articles on Lockn' had been written recently and came across an article about a murder, police chase, and then police involved shooting on Hwy 29. I believe they shut down 29 to collect evidence, etc. It sounds like a domestic incident occurred in Afton, criminal took off, wrecked, shot a trooper, and was then killed by police. Not sure what the problem was yesterday but I hope they get it resolved. We were coming down 151 and stopped at Devils Backbone for lunch. We headed south on 151 and hit traffic. Wow. Headed straight up 29 on Sat so I knew it was something new. Sorry about those that lost loved ones. Glad it wasn't the bridge over the Tye.
