2018 review

From a strictly "not there but read about it" POV (and I'm NOT being critical, just summarizing what I've read all over):
More people then ever before? Led to increased asshat behaviors, like more stuff going missing, more trash on the grounds, but not sure how that effected your views, ability to move around, or overall vibes. Was the layout an improvement?
Rotating stage: with a few exceptions, which seemed to take a long time, I thought there was more flow this year from one band to the other then in previous years.
Dead & Co: either loved or hated it. Personally I enjoyed it. Not sure how hard you expect those guys to go. Phish 3.0 isn't Phish from the 90's. I thought Mayer shredded when he wanted to and if anyone slowed the pace down, it was Bobby. I thought Lettuce & TTB rocked it harder and JRAD is still my best go to for Dead jammn'.
Couldn't have asked for much nicer weather, but it still looked damn hot during the day. Wish they had more shade options.
I'm still keeping a wide open mind for next year, but their stream was soundboard crystal clear. Other than hanging out with you fine people, I'd be less inclined to spend the $ and personal logistics to go...especially if its getting bigger and losing some of that early years vibe.

Weather: excellent. would still prefer about 10 degrees cooler, but given reality, it couldn't have been better
Show field: I thought the layout this year was very well done. The food was a bit of a hike, but the additional space it provided including the hill it sat on, made everything feel just the right size. I actually like that they put the chairs back so far. It separated the dancers from the chair folks enough so that you didn't get inundated with people as the headliner started and conversely, there was enough room to walk up close as you needed. It was a nice pattern of walking up and listening, then retreating back to base to rest.
Food/Beer: It was good.
Security: It was a shit show. My car search took 27 secs, but the show field was needlessly invasive and punitive. If they are going to continue it like this, they need more lanes.
Music: My favorite set of the weekend was the first night of Dead & Co. I don't know if this was the best music or not, but I had my most fun then. Rotating from the stage, to TOO's chairs, to the hill with Lobster/Sneak/Newbin/Loose Ankles/Worf was great. The screen was throwing some great graphics and I was very inebriated that night. Second night of D&C was meh. Still a lot of fun, but just not enough energy. It was actually my first time to see them and Johnny was really good.
TTB was my second favorite. I have seen them several times at this point and they never disappoint. Felt like we got to see a little more Derek this year where I think it was last year Susan seemed to step forward and play more. She is still very impressive on guitar and could easily carry herself, but I imagine having him around as a tutor hasn't hurt.
JRAD was a bit of a let down on Friday, but I left early, so not a great source. I don't know that the world needed a 24 minute Cats. That and a disjointed Viola Lee that never really ran on the bass line groove that makes that song for me, put me to sleep and I bailed. Did hear the china/rider from the tent.
The sleeper hit for me was the Led Zeppelin by UM. Not being a big UM fan I wasn't that into the set before then. Props to that guy on vocals as he did a great job covering Robert Plant, which is a dangerous feat.
Sheryl Crow was competent, but I only mention her because during the song Favorite Mistake (which I forgot even existed), Dryw leaned over to me and said, "Chris, you're my favorite mistake." That made it worth her being there.
I was glad to see Toots as a bucket list item, but not sure why they bothered bringing in Taj since Toots seem to be telling him the song and key they were going to play actively. The band didn't make it easy on Taj either because they mixed up the traditional version of the song (I can't remember which one it was, but I knew the album version).
I actually enjoyed George Clinton. Dryw hated it.
People: All of you were so much fun to hang with and the highlight of the weekend were the conversations and sightings. See you all next year!

I really enjoyed seeing everyone at the M&G. Sorry I didn't get around to everyone. I'm a clutz on my feet these days so I thought it best to stick close to my scooter. Thank you, Andie Bee , for hosting a great party and for the time we shared otherwise. You are such a treasure as are all on this forum. I'm so grateful for having met so many of you, the time we've shared, and for this forum.
The music was awesome! JRAD, TTB, and D&C didn't disappoint except that I was hoping for a Sheryl Crow/Susan Tedeschi collaboration. JRAD's Morning Dew will forever be a favorite for me.
This was the first year for me with the scooter and there was quit the learning curve the first day. I had not driven it on uneven terrain before and got stuck many times and flipped the scooter twice. After the first day, I had better control of it and had learned by my mistakes, where not to go. In the end, it made it the best LOCKN' for me with regard to mobility. I met so many amazing people because I was able to get around more. Great fun! Can't wait for 2019!

Ump killed it, Lettuce killed it, Dead n Co killed it, pretty much everyone!!! Crow made a comment on stage which was a little off around the lines of, "I see everyone over here cheering for us which to me is a Big surprise!" It's Lockn, what did you expect? We were gonna Boo you off stage?? Kind of like she was out of touch with her fans but at Lockn everyone is welcomed with open arms!
Bringing a bike this year came in handy for sure!
Biggest surprise was seeing Spafford because I had never seen them before and after that show I hope they'll be back next year, same with Pigeons.
Seeing all of you again was a blast, til next year!

Which brings me to my next item - they were actually doing a sound check on the Relix stage during the DeadCo set. WTF?
More shade needed - they really need some large shade structures in the open areas outside the main field. Just a place to sit for a few minutes and get some relief from the sun. Heavy tents so that it's total sunblock. The new trees on the field are a great idea and will be great in a year or three. But outside the field there is nothing. Some more misting stations would be cool. (See what I did there??)
Also there is no direct way from forest camping to the other side of the venue without walking all the way down past sober and family camping. Seems they could do better than that. The only direct way to get to the other side is through the main field, which means going through security every time you want to cut through. And when the main field is closed, you are out of luck.
These are the main items I think would be nice to see improved.
Music was great as usual - your guys were awesome and the others sucked.
Forest camping was fun as usual - mostly great people everywhere.
The full moon rising was a sight to be seen!
The free water stations inside were critical to staying hydrated.
Finally made it to JRAD!
Crickets and cicadas sing... A rare and different tune...

The search going in was more of a "hey let me just see what the inside of your car looks like" vs. a search. Unfortunately two cars in our crew got stuck in a bad line so we ended up waiting an extra hour for them.
The crowds didn't bother me at all. The no chair line was well enforced and though it was crowded, I never felt like I had no room to move/breathe and I spent most of the weekend in front of the soundboard. The crowds going into the show field were absurd though. I missed Ghost Light and half of Grateful Gospel because of that absurd line. Apparently people were even getting turned away from Jrad on Friday night because the field was full. They need to clean that up next year, its simply unacceptable to be waiting 30 minutes to get into the field at a festival.
Only other minor complaints would be the piano sets being moved and the lack of food options in the campground. I wanted to check out Joel Cummins on Friday, I sat down to hear half a song and immediately nope'd out of there when that sun started hitting me. Not many food vendors in the campground either, there were maybe a total of 4 trucks and they each had a giant line every morning for breakfast.
All in all a great weekend, had a great time with you guys on Friday. My only complaints are minor, can't wait to do it again in a year!

Ghost Light was a blast of energy to get the music going for us on Friday and Band of Changes was a good set to relax in some shade. I really enjoyed their Neil cover. I would have liked the UM Friday set to be all Zeppelin but they rocked out the ones they did and it helped make up for the first half of originals. I actually had a good time during P-funk. Had no expectations going in so hard to be let down I guess. WSMFP was terrific and I heard a lot of favorites and thought Margo did a great job with them. JRAD was awesome again but our bodies got the best of us during Ophelia and we went back and crashed.
We jumped into the music at Pigeons on Saturday and did not leave until the end. WHAT A DAY OF MUSIC! We both love Pigeons so that set was awesome. Foundations of Funk would be higher on my list if there wasn't so many other sets I loved. Hearing those songs was a lot of fun and adding the Dead & Co guys made it that much more. TTB was scorching and was an amazing band to hear before Dead & Co. I had a lot of fun the first night of Dead & Co and thought it was a good show from them to kick it off. Then the Lettuce late night was pure bananas. I'm sure everyone here agrees with that one.
Keller was exactly what you expect on Sunday, but as always a good time and fun way to open the last day of a Dead inspired festival. Sheryl Crow was more fun than I expected I will admit. My wife was loving it but there was at least 5 times I heard different men in the crowd say this is actually fun. TTB brought it again. The Stateboro and Space Captain were fantastic. Dead & Co Sunday was my favorite of the weekend. Branford made for a perfect ending to a perfect weekend.
We had a great time meeting everyone Friday and seeing people around the farm the rest of the weekend. Can't wait for next year! We are hoping to recruit a few friends from Milwookie to make the trip with us next year!!

The search coming in was quick and easy, but one thing in hindsight that is nagging me, the woman asked us to step out of the RV for the search. Bob got out no problem, but I explained that I have problems with the deep stairs on the camper so asked if I could just stay in, she was kind of put off. Is it protocol for them to search without the owners present?
The music, the friends and the weather were just amazing! I'm so happy I got to see so many people and exchange words in real time!
Lockn ADA personnel were kind and very helpful, that said, the festival grounds are not made for people who have mobility issues. The grounds were uneven and treacherous, the gravel was boggy in places and I fell over on my scooter more than once. It's embarrassing, but I'm recounting it here because in a worse case scenario I could have been seriously injured. Leaving at the end of the night in the mass of people was scary. There was really no safe way to navigate around the crowd and having to bull through it was a nightmare. Most people were considerate, but the few who weren't made it extra difficult. The next nights we set up high on a hill away from the crowd which was ok, but left me feeling segregated a little and the sound wasn't great. I didn't use the ADA platforms because getting to them was difficult for the reasons I mentioned and leaving would have been a mess for the reasons I mentioned. I'm not sure why there wasn't a better flat area to travel on for wheelchairs. We saw a lady in a wheelchair that had flipped over on a small rise. The staff was there in seconds to help her up which is commendable but maybe the accident could have been prevented. As my condition is up and down, I have to wonder if I'm not able to walk next year, could I do Lockn? If the grounds are the same, the answer, for safety concerns, is no... Maybe I should write to Lockn ADA and stop whining here.
We left Sunday morning around 7:30am. It was easy getting out and the drive home to Florida was uneventful.

Loved being able to ride around on my bike and I rode the mountain biking trails every day. They weren't challenging or particularly scenic but were a great workout.
I am a guitarist and I spent time jamming in Garcia's Forest 3 of the 4 days. Did not find any late night camping jams though. We were in an RV up in the high field maybe I needed to look further afield?
Music: I loved Sunday's Dead and Co sets and Sunday's TTB. We have seen TTB several times and were wondering what they were going to play Sunday as it seemed like they went through most of their best material Saturday. The answer was more jamming and it was great.
I am less of a fan of UM and Lettuce - great musicians but the songs, or lack of songs, just doesn't work for me. I was really looking forward to seeing JRAD but Starting out with that long jam Thursday night just put me to sleep. I think they should do away with the Relix stage. Everyone crowding into a smaller area with no video screens and a lesser PA made no sense to me. Why?
Would have liked to have seen Sheryl Crow and Susan Tedeschi sing a duet...maybe Angel From Montgomery (a TTB staple that they did not play this time around)
Would have loved to see Derek Trucks jam with Dead and Co a bit. IMO Derek and John Mayer were the 2 best guitarists there.
Enjoyed Foundations of Funk ,but have seen all those guys in their various bands separately and together and they are usually better. Weir and Mayer joining them for those songs just muddied things up and added nothing.
But with the camping, the super friendly vibe, the biking and jamming Lockn is the perfect festival for me and I will return.

You didn't think the trails were challenging??? Hell, the intermediate trail had a rocky section over a somewhat ditch at the bottom of a hill going up another one. I was cruising down that section and saw the large rocks at the very end and got on my brakes quick enough to avoid barreling into them. Smaller sections I can normally bunny hop over no problem but I'm not all about doing super technical stuff when I'm at a music festival. The last thing I need is to break a bone doing something stupid while on vacation and ruin the rest of my trip because I'll tell ya now had I broken a wrist I would not be going to the hospital for a few days, I'da just eaten the pain til after the fest!
Either way, I'm selling my 26er and buying a nice 29er for next year to tackle the harder trails!!

Looks like they were trying to fill space. I mean best zep set? Wasnt the bonham set the only zep set? Best acoustic set? wasnt keller and the keels the only acoustic set? Best "spirit of Jerry" was D&C? Sounded to me like it was the Lettuce JGB set
