Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
because the amenities in RV and VIP camping are similar in many ways, and cost comparable (depending on how many tickets you buy), the choice between the two comes down to personal preferences and priorities, primarily (a) close to the field and (b) close viewing options. Many VIP's put the most value in being close to the stage. As for ease of access to the field, this year was the worst for GA, although it has gotten progressively worse over time. it would be a big factor this year and not at all in L2. Who knows about next year, lockn being lockn. because the amenities in RV and VIP camping are similar in many ways, and cost comparable (depending on how many tickets you buy), the choice between the two comes down to personal preferences and priorities, primarily (a) close to the field and (b) close viewing options. Agree that the BBQ was not on par with previous years and that the VIP tent was consistently warm.
At least the VIP lounge had a view of the stages compared to SVIP.
I'll stick with VIP for these main reasons:
1. Ease of entry to the field. I never had to wait and because I didn't have a bag, was never searched.
2. Proximity to camp. I was close enough to be able to go back and forth. With a bike it was a quick easy trip to the RV for a bite, AC, or one of my own beers. Plus the sound was good by our spot.
3. Even though the area up front got crowded Saturday night, it was larger than last year. We put up some chairs in the back for fall back spots, but spent the majority of the time up closer.
4. Access to easy and quick free cold water. I must have drank 3 waters for every beer purchased.

Having to walk all the way from the back of VIP car camping with two chairs took it's toll on our old fart feet, legs and backs! Karts were nonexistent.
Major cut back on lots of amenities. Other than that what we expected.

VIP viewing area was better Sunday than Saturday. It was so crowded Saturday there was hardly room to dance. Sunday (weary legs maybe?) it was really easy to move around and get up close and towards the center.
I thought the sunday brunch was good enough. Thursday BBQ was very "meh". late night pasta on thurs was good, I tried getting food a couple other nights but I was too late to the party.
I was in the back of VIP car camping and close to the "new" bathrooms and showers. I did wait for a stall a time or two, but it was never too dire a situation. Anyone who used a GA camp porto at any time throughout the weekend knows how nice the VIP ones were.
For this location, bikes were so clutch. A 3 minute bike ride to the gate made it easy to go in and out of the venue whenever we wanted (just for a quick bite, half a day time set, whatever) and saved our legs.
Easy, stress free entry into the campground and easy access to the showfield. A dude warned me about my backpack being "too large" (standard daypack size, but not even a hydration pack) but the same guy let me through the next two nights with the same bag.
Is it worth triple the cost? No. Would I do it again? yes.
Some things you can't put a value on...like not having your shit stolen from your campsite, not having someone shit in your car, or being able to walk in to VIP viewing area at the end of TTB and be on the rail by the end of the first DeadCo set

My camp is in the tents in the corner there so I could hear well and monitor the line situation. I posted a couple of MccJeff's "Prohibited Items" lists in the crowd for their entertainment.

The only problem for me regarding anything other than VIP is I'm a 12+ hour rager out there. If I can't get shade and copious amounts of water in between, I overheat and am done. Walking back and forth to GA a few times during the day (to say nothing of getting back in line) will force me to miss a lot of music. I'm not one to camp a spot all day either...w/ lockn security I'd spend a small fortune on non-beer/food/then beer whereas I assume those costs included w/ VIP. These smaller/mid fests are a complete different animal that doesn't require me missing much in order to survive and thus VIP amenities are more convenience and luxury. And a hell of alot cheaper. My couch tour this year was surprisingly good, too. I had a phone and portable speaker streaming the entire time out at a brewery and another date. I'm just saying all this not to come across as a snob but someone who wants to enjoy as much Lockn as possible...and want the product to at least match the price.

I see your point. I guess I’ll need to factor out the other amenities (or at least count on them being not as awesome as advertised) and decide whether location is worth the $$ next time!

Another thing we figured out about GA Car camping is if you get there anytime after 4:15 your over the ridge. Last year I was 150 feet from the main show field entrance from GA car camping....this year we got in line at 5:30 and I was in the middle of Greenfield....if we don't do RV next year I'll be in that dam line at 3:30 or 4 am so I have a prime spot...
Either way we'll be back next year.
