Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
Factor in the number of tickets you have to buy. If you are buying for a family of four, then GA x 4 + RV spot plus rental might be cheaper than VIPx4 plus car camping. But the real point of comparison is that having an RV gives you similar facilities/amenities as VIP car camping, other than stage viewing area. I'm just talking generalizations; you noodle the specifics. Factor in the number of tickets you have to buy. I'm just talking generalizations; you noodle the specifics. I wonder about that model with a Grateful Dead-centric festival. We are a rapidly aging fan base, not to mention the geriatric band members. Now there are a lot of kids who are fans, but I wonder how long they can continue until they go the route of Bonnaroo - booking acts to attract a younger crowd. I don't see Lockn' in it's current incarnation as sustainable. That raised my eyebrows as well. But I really was referring to the fact that these guys will be retiring 'soon' - so what do they do with no original GD members still playing, and some of the other jam bands are no spring chickens either. I don't think the large core of old folks will come to see Dead cover bands, no matter how good. With the other jam bands still draw? Stay tuned... Please note: This forum is in no way officially associated with Lockn' Festival or its promoters.

Many will note that getting an RV is a good middle ground between GA and VIP camping, and meets the cost about in the middle.

I'll be back - well duh. It's close, it's awesome, and I get to spend 4 days with my two best buds in the world.
It will be in an RV - I'll be 59 next Lockn'-No need to sleep on the ground. AC for sleeping. Much quieter inside if your neighbors are raging.
It will be VIP - closer viewing area. Closer camp where I can hear some of the early acts while I'm drinking my brews while visiting. No lines to get in and out of the show field.

It's funny you mention the fragile artists; on the "why you should buy tickets" ad they say the same thing, with a picture of Tom Petty. That rubbed me the wrong way. But we've seen our share of cancellations--and a couple who should have.

But I have to say, probably the biggest factor influencing our annual return to Lockn is the convenience: it’s a 45 minute drive, more or less in the proverbial back yard. Were it 6, 8, 12 hours away, I seriously doubt we would have a perfect attendance record.
And as much as I have enjoyed the great bands that have played, I don’t consider the line up all that unique; we’ve seen many of the headliners at other festivals, including D&C. And many, many of the undercard bands.
Although in the end we are likely to continue our Lockn streak in 2019, I think I’m gonna pass on the alumni sale and wait until I see what Bonnaroo has to offer next year. If it’s stellar, we may go to Manchester instead of Arrington. Or both, of course, if Mr Frey lines up something amazing in 2019, which is always possible.
