The kind thing for that guy to do is to keep it to himself. More people need to do that.

But in the right setting, his point is correct. The Christmas trappings displayed publicly--trees, lights, yule log, feasts, wreaths and greenery, holly, mistletoe--are all from pagan (more precisely, non-Christian) traditions.

I think it’s like most things, we make it what it is for us. Yesterday we went to the beach. It was raining and windy. Laura’s boots got filled to sloshy and lighting a cigarette was nearly miraculous. We had a blast! We found a couple dozen agates put a pretty good dent in a twelver and are headed back now.
I see the rain and wind just like the grippy, judgemental, and unhappy people that try to spread that vibe at a time when it is appropriate to show love and friendship to those I care about. I don’t need to be guided by dogmatic or cultural moores. We celebrate!
