If I could add one artist to the 2023 lineup: Railroad Earth

So, a little background first…I havent had a TV for decades, my entertainment has been live music. Well, that changed this Christmas. Sure, I’ve watched TV’s at friends houses but I finally played with mine tonight. I’m pretty technologically challenged and this forum is as deep as I’ve been. Well, TV isn’t like it was with 3 channels like when I had one. We are connected to it by Sudden Link and we have Netflix which I found a music section. There’s some good stuff it looks like; I just watched the Joe Cocker thing (wow)! But there is only about 20 hours of stuff in the menu that looked watchable. You guys post all of this cool live music and links. I want that! Can I get that on my TV? And I wonder if watching it will make more telemarketers call me.
I bought something for the first time from my iPad last week (clips for my greenhouse) on eBay and now my phone won’t stop ringing with sales stuff and I get texts all day long for amazon jobs and free medical braces and zero percent credit cards. I got the debit card from my bank so could buy on the innernet and now I really just want to crawl back under my rock. It’s all fake people computer calls and it’s freaking me out. WTF! Is this really the world today?
I know this forum is safe because I’ve been here for awhile and none of this happened ever. Is it my new plastic money, or buying from my iPad? Does TV cause any issues like this?

On the music thing, I have to say that youtube videos are the greatest thing for me. I do NOT register and do NOT comment there. I just watch. Great newer live music, and unbelievable older videos from back in the golden age of rock and roll that offers a lifetime of viewing. They DO still track what your computer watches and feed that back to you, but that is the unavoidable modern world. I also recently joined spotify to get more audio music options. We also have sirius for the car, Grateful Dead Channel and Underground garage are important for me.

On the tracking, I try to be careful, not fall for things, and DON'T answer anything you don't like because that just encourages them. We get marketing calls that spoof being a neighbor and all the other calls and emails. We try to ignore them and move on, but we won't miss the music opportunities while we are living -- the options I mention pretty much help make life worth living for us. That said, I am trying to get to more live music than I could when the kids were younger.

Second the YouTube, lots of good stuff there. When you see something you like, subscribe to the channel and youtube will find you more stuff like that. Sometimes I leave it on autoplay and it plays cool stuff for hours.

No way of telling who sold off your phone number. It looks like SS / insurance companies probably sent mine out there on some lists. Anyway, since I don't have a land line, I use my phone to block every call unless the caller is on my contact list. With that set, the only calls that get through are friend, family, and one time a telemarketer spoofing my OWN phone number! Yea, didn't answer that because I knew I wasn't calling me at the time.

I'm not signing this!

I watch almost only youtube. You would find lots of topics on gardening there too. If you buy a Roku player ($40), you can plug that into your TV (if it has an hdmi plug) and get youtube and netflix on your TV. One tip on the spam. Have an email address that you only use for friends and family, then a dummy one (ie: fuspammer@gmail) for registering for stuff (ie: netflix, youtube, here). Then they can sell it all they want and the only time you check it is when you need to change a password or confirm the email for registration. Thing is, if you don't sign in to Youtube with a gmail address, you can't subscribe to stuff and have a trackable history, etc. I subscribe to google music, whose player sucks, but I get 5 accounts on the family plan for the kids and you get a free "Red" subscription to youtube that gets the commercials and banners off. I think Youtube is even offering add on cable channels for extra money now like Sling.

It is definitely more confusing these days, but much cheaper than the last 20 years of the cable syndicate.

Be mindful of voice command devices. They are possessed. Never say "alexa" out loud.

Also...be sure to wear your tinfoil hat whenever you are in the same room as any electronic device.

I would only amend this by saying if your concern for privacy is high, then I disagree that your internet provider is any better and probably less secure than google. I assure you comcast/timewarner/etc is less secure than google. Therefore a third party vendor that uses encryption and tor might be better. Below is a link with a reasonable set of suggestions for privacy, but we have surpassed the original request and this is probably just confusing for a non-tech person.

Assuming you have wi-fi in your house, I suggest a Roku player that you can pick up at your local WalMart and plug into back of your tv. Just gives you a bigger screen to watch on assuming you watch on a computer or phone. It also gives you the option to order Netflix or other streaming service in the future if you want. I like this one because it has a power and volume button thereby eliminating needing your tv remote. FYI, your tv needs an HDMI connection

Yes it is. That is a really good look at the scenery. The documentary itself is based loosely on facts but that is not what went down with that dude at all. It is the Wild West but not like it used to be in the last couple decades. The government is starting to poke its nose through our emerald curtain.

I got the debit card from my bank so could buy on the innernet and now I really just want to crawl back under my rock. It’s all fake people computer calls and it’s freaking me out. WTF! Is this really the world today?
I know this forum is safe because I’ve been here for awhile and none of this happened ever. Is it my new plastic money, or buying from my iPad? Does TV cause any issues like this?

Ebay is really your culprit here. NEVER use them or Craigslist unless it's absolutely necessary. They're both crawling with bots that scrape your information. Every time I use one of them, my calls and texts go up 1000%.
