I saw this a few weeks ago. It sits on top of your amazon speaker and plays white noise until you wake it up, then it passes your commands through. It is an open-source project and as I read it, it has no internet access and is just a gate to the speaker, so it wouldn't have the capacity to record or send your info to anyone. Pretty cool. someone should make a phone case similar.

I don't think that your friend is crazy or needs a tinfoil hat quite yet. Here is an interesting article and things that you can do about the "snooping"...My friend just told me his phone is always listening even when it’s off and recommends ads by what it overheard. Is that true or should I buy him a roll of aluminum foil.

Not sure why you would see that, nothing has changed in the setup. Anyway there is no need to be concerned about this site.When I log in to the forum I’m getting a notice that says NOT SECURE and I never have gotten that before

I'm not internet security guy (but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night) but a quick google search may help to explain this. proBoards hosts this site so I have included a link referencing proBoards security.

There is nothing wrong with your forum.
Webpage URLs that begin with "http" are just pages sent as is across the internet. If they have the "s" added ("https") this means they are secure pages and are encrypted for sending across the internet.
More recent updates to browsers are now showing indicators for webpages that are http vs https as there is now a shift to making all pages https as well as aiding users to recognize what pages are secure and which are not.
In regards to ProBoards, login pages will always be https. The regular forum pages are still http and are fine.
I checked the login page and it is indeed secure and the url starts with https:
proBoards plans to use https secure pages in the future for all pages but has not done it yet.
I think that it is great to be diligent about internet security but still feel that this site is pretty low risk. If you want I can let in the Obats again

Not to rain on your parade, but if you have been an amazon customer for a while theyve been building a profile on you and your family for that entire time.They already know who you are.They know you have a daughter.They will know the difference between her requests and yours on alexa.It won't confuse them at all, it will help them build out your profile information even more.

A couple of times with my poker group, when the host runs tunes through Alexa, it has picked up conversations about Alexa which triggered it to interpret commands, change songs, etc. Once someone said as a joke "alexa play afternoon delight" and she interrupted Robert Earl Keene to do so!
