With the help of LOCKN’s partners, our festival has made huge strides to eliminate single-use plastic at LOCKN’.

MINIMIZING PLASTIC SERVED AT LOCKN’

With the support of LOCKN’s concessionaire, sponsors, and vendors, LOCKN’ is eliminating single-use plastic items served on the Show Field. Instead of plastic bottles of water, fans will find cold, canned water at all bar locations. Free water stations are located in two easy-to-access locations in the show field and throughout the campgrounds. Plenty of canned and draft adult beverage options are available, and all draft will be poured in biodegradable cups.

MAXIMIZING RECYCLING EFFORTS

LOCKN’ has partnered with a clean-up team to sort waste and ensure that uncontaminated recyclables will be hauled to a local facility to bale and trade LOCKN’s recyclable materials.

Participate in Citizen Sort

Nelson Recycling wants your collection. Take your aluminum and any plastic you packed in to the Citizen Sort containers by the main entrance. You earn prizes for doing the right thing for the planet.

Keep it clean

Please leave Infinity Downs and Oak Ridge Farms in the same conditions you arrived. Remember to respect the beaver and all of the other creatures in this flourishing ecosystem.

biodegradable cups? Waxed cardboard, maybe? There are things sold as "compostable plastic," but that would still be plastic.

Corn starch cups?

Drink fast! Before you cup falls apart. LOL!

I’m taking mine and am hoping they will let me use it.  At L2 they would not.

Last year they wouldn't direct pour but you can dump theirs into your cup, which helps the insulation problem but not the trash. They said it was a health code issue b/c they grab your grimey germy cup then with out washing hands, grab the next guy's cup--clean or also grimey. However, there are many fest which direct fill so maybe not.

But I'm thinking the paper is better insulation than thin plastic.

And the "biodegradable" is really no help in a landfill; it's OK if you litter or have a burn barrel.

So the germy refill thing is the argument for stainless steel refillable cups, like they have done at Floydfest for at least the last 8 years. Stainless steel is anti-bacterial, something I learned while touring the Sierra Nevada brewery.

I was thinking of just getting an IV line put in and have them fill up my "travel bag"

The double pour would still present some danger of cross contamination from customer vessel to the reusable vendor cup though. I know theoretically there isn't actual contact, but not sure the health department would see it that way. I think it's a great idea but bureaucracy, ya know

Now that's thinking outside the keg.
