I second those comments.  In the face of real adversity, they still made running the festival look easy.  Can't wait for 2020!

All of the showfield and vendor set ups were as originally planned for a larger crowd and was the same as last year except for the second stage being dark, and I think that was planned all along.

The only change was in consolidating the Oak Ridge camping into the Greenfield area so all the camping was there and High Field. I don't know about any changes in the VIP gated community as I was denied entry.

I also don't recall the band buses rolling through the crowd like they did this year.

Only change that I know of to the VIP setup is that there were no air-conditioned bathrooms at the far end of VIP car camping. I know what you may be thinking but people pay for and expect this to be available. The VIP car camping field right next to the track was maybe 20% full this year (usually filled to capacity) but the VIP RV section appeared filled to me. As usual my entrance plan had us parked just steps from the entrance so no complaints here...

Glamping had a bunch of empty tents. We were in VIP RV by there and it was not full at all. No idea on rental RVs.

FWIW, I did VIP car last year (with kid) and GA forest this year (solo).  Post-fest, I can think of no reason at all that would have justified the price of VIP this year, even if I were feeling flush.  Not quite ready, however, to rule out VIP again in future, depending on companions and stage lineup.

It was hands-down the best organized festival I've been to, including previous Lockn's. I'm sure the organizers are considering what to do for next year, as I suspect they lost money this year. They were probably able to shave some costs by consolidating the camping and maybe cutting some staff, but there are lots of fixed costs too.

Question is, will they look for ways to sell more tickets, or ways to cut expenses?

I'm sure the contract prices are negotiated to take in many variables including either being in the area on tour, or setting other performances around it. I also inquired whether artists get paid for "sit ins" the way an actor is, and the answer was that it varies.

I would doubt that a festival performance contract is tied to the "gate" the way a bar venue is.

Although the crowd filled a lot of the same space, it wasn't near as tight. You could stroll from the back to the front without having to employ those pro weasel moves.
