I liked who I like before Lockn', and I still like them.

But there were a few unexpected 'oh wow this is good' new bands for me.

Liz Cooper and the Stampede, something about her voice grabs me. And she blazed the guitar too.

Khruangbin, very trippy. Did they have a song where the only word was 'yes' over and over? I loved it. (I had to cut/paste that band name, I can't spell it or say it)

Vulfpeck, I think I'd like to see them at a festival over and over. Not sure I'd download any though. Still very enjoyable.

Jason Isbell, something about it live made it even better than what I had been listening to in the weeks before the festival.

And I liked TTB before, but now I like them even more now. Susan Tedeschi can out sing anyone.

that also came through when he played "Elizabeth Read" with Soulive which was also one of the top musical brightspots

I didn't make it out to hear all the music I would have liked to but there wasn't anything I didn't like of what I heard. I thoroughly enjoyed Edie Brickell. I've always loved her unique style. What she brought wasn't really unexpected though.

What WAS unpected for me was how much I enjoyed Gary Clark. I've never been a fan of Vulfpeck, either, but they changed my mind. Paul Janeway of St. Paul and the Broken Bones blew me away. What a set of pipes that guy has.

Real treats: Trey & Derek's Layla and assorted love songs.
Top of the list for me was Susan and Bob. What an excellent finish to the BEST LOCKN' EVER for me!

Wish I had made the late night sets, but alas it was not meant to be. Fighting a sinus infection all week, rest was key. The youngster in our crew made it there and
was raving about that.

I do have to admit I'm just a tiny bit bitter that I feel fine on my first day back at work after feeling crappy the entire time on the farm.

Moon Alice was great as expected but the T Sisters added a "musical bright spot" to an already enjoyable set. Loved kicking off the weekend after the beer exchange with that show!

The Infiniti Horns were a major musical bright spot for me. I tuned into them shortly before the fest watching TAB at Peach--a first encounter for me. They were very tight, passed the lead back and forth as pros, and had great depth and range.

Being a jazz lover, I was really excited to see them. Not only did they kill it during the TAB show, they showed up late with Soulive and a few other sit-ins, plus the trumpet player, who has great pipes and chops, appeared solo some.

Their moving around like that is what makes Lockn' special.

Well, she seems to have a lot going for her before she picks up the bass too.
