Nah, it's off. The connector was a little different this year, but actually pretty easy to get off once I figured out the technique. Take a sharp little knife and slice the big outer barrel. Pull that off and then do the same to the two little inner barrels. Done.

Not liking the idea of sharp knives near my wrist, I found it simpler to use a hot, dull blade to melt a cut through the plastic. You can pry the inner barrels off with your fingers.Nah, it's off. Also, if you twist the ends of the band really really really tight, while holding said twisted band, "unscrew" the plastic by pulling off while rotating, after a bit you'll hear the plastic teeth crack and the plastic comes off.

I have to concede the contest; I took mine off yesterday. It wasn't the band but the tails dragging through my cooking, as well as stuff like crab bait, bilges, motors and stuff I tinker with. Was getting ready to pick crabs.
I tried the soda straw method but couldn't get up in their and then accidentally tightened more. So I used the wire cutters. There are two barrels with teeth inside the cover. But I got the whole band!
