My daughter Elizabeth is expecting in early October so she asked me to put together a delivery room Spotify list--she expects to be there a while! The only limitation was no jazz or classical. She wants a range of vibes since she reckons her moods will range also. First baby. The better word is rage not range IIRC.

I start with Set me Free (Rosalee) since that is what I was playing 31 years ago when I brought her home. Then Bertha (get it? Birth?) and on. The songs link to each other in some weird way. Threw one in for dad there early. The baby will be a grrrl so lots of daughter/girl songs.

Didn't know what to call it. Thought about "coming out" but that might get confused with...debutantes... not that there's anything wrong with that. But I don't have the title song on the list b/c I hate that song.

There's a connection between The Eleven and Whipping Post, which is why I used it to transition out of GD jams.

But another reason for that song: When Elizabeth was planning her wedding, she said, "Dad. We need to pick a song for our dance and practice." I immediately suggested Whipping Post. That suggestion was received about as well as my many other suggestions about the event!

Reminds me of a comment a friend made when we were badgering him to come to my wedding 'lo these many years ago.

good idea and I'm looking for some songs that better fit parents; so many "girl" and "baby" are romantic--or unromantic!

Put in "My Girl" which Andie Bee danced with her dad to at her wedding and "September" that Elizabeth and I danced to (after Whipping Post was vetoed). Added some Springsteen and Motown.

Put in a run of Tennessee--> Smokey Mountains for my dad's genes but didn't know how to transition out so I went to Smokey Robinson TOAC which is a great song but lyrics don't fit the theme except babies always cry? Need to add some Virginia songs--starting with Only the Good Die Young!

Hope you all enjoy it as much as I am making it.

OK after 146 songs and over 11 hours I doubt she'll get to them all so I'm stopping.. Added some Virginia and Carolina songs for heritage, "Closing Time" on suggestion and of course Van Halen "The Cradle Will Rock' ("Have you seen Junior's grades???")
