I know that we don't sell anything through this site but I guess an evil doer (Obat I'm looking at you) could harvest email addresses and passwords if they wanted to. Feels like we should increase the security here which would required SSL certificates. This part seems easy enough but it comes at a cost. GoDaddy hosts this domain and here are the prices for different types (?) of SSL certificates. You can get the standard level of protection for $128 for 2 years, deluxe for $272 for 2 years or premium for $250 for 2 years.
For reference www.locknfestival.com is also not secure and we have all purchased items (tickets) from there.
Can someone knowledgeable in this area make a recommendation?
First, is this something that we should do? Second, what level of protection should we have?
If this is something that we decide to move forward with I will ask for donations from the group to cover these expenses.

Other than that I think an SSL certificate is overkill. Certificates can be a PITA for the site runners.
