vip camp

I read that article too and decided that I was not gonna feel guilty for going vip! My girlfriend and I have been to many shows and fests and this is the first time going vip. We are by NO means rich ,just older(40s) and willing to save up the money(hard earned) for some small comforts. We've done our time in the GA lines and pottys.
 Dont feel guilty fellow VIPs! We deserve this!

I'm neither rich nor very well off. I to am older and I'm just gonna use my money for the vacation that I want. People who go to Disney get to have the vacation they want without receiving crap about them paying to be able jump lines have a personal assistant to help them enjoy the park the way they want. But we as concert, festival goers can't spend our money the way we want to enjoy the show/festival the way we want to enjoy it without some punk kid whining to Rolling Stone about how we are ruining THEY'RE festival.

Thank you veryorange I can honestly say when it comes to my vacations(concerts/festivals)my attitude is "I didn't know it was you I was supposed to impress, and personally I'm NOT really concerned if you aren't impressed".

You know...the way I remember it (and a quick study of the record confirms), those of us who had concerns about VIP/SVIP expressed them, they were debated by the folks who felt they were justified, we agreed to disagree, and then we proceeded to dissolve the tension by cracking jokes about the argument itself. That was before the Rolling Stone article came out...and before anyone using terms like "hater" even hit the scene.

From where I sit, I see some folks (see? I can be passive-aggressive, too) who appear to be trying to poke a bee's nest purely for the entertainment value of watching the bees get all riled up.

When I did read the RS article, I admit that I felt kinda cool in that RS and I were asking the same questions. Like maybe in another life I coulda wrote for Rolling Stone or something. It always feels good to have that kind of synchronicity with an institution you admire.


But that's neither here nor there.


When I read that issue, I learned a few things I didn't know before. Like, it's very difficult to put on a successful fest of any real size purely based on GA sales. I also learned that at some festivals, the GA and VIP folks have to stand behind or beside a section of SVIPs frolicking and cavorting in freaking hot tubs. Now with that perspective, whatever goes on a Lockn' seems trivial by comparison. The last thing I learned is that some of the promoters and performers don't care for the idea either. However, recognizing that it's a necessary evil (no, I don't think you're evil, it's an idiom, okay?), they've decided to suck it up and soldier on. Which is exactly what I intend to do.


Ya know what else is a necessary evil? Day-walkers. I guess we're all guilty of a little hate, huh?

I never heard the term myself until I was on this board. Same with "wook". Anyway, it just means people with one-day passes. I suppose "walker" is a reference to Walking Dead or some such zombie nonsense. 

The conventional wisdom is that those folks are more likely to steal shit or start trouble, since they have less to lose by getting kicked out. I have seen no empirical evidence of this, but anecdotal abounds.

Can't wait to Dr. Bronner's up the hot tub--beats the $10 showers we in GA get...

worf is correct, totally kidding! Jean-Jacques Rousseau was serious when he said it in the 18th century. It was sloganism of the highest order when espoused by the SDS in the 60's. And it was a great song by Motorhead in the 80's. I debated between that and "THE MUSIC SHOULD BE FREE MAN!" as an equally absurdist statement. I was in no way trying to stir any pots or be a provocateur nor was I trying to flame any class warfare sentiments. It was strictly in jest which I sometimes forget isn't immediately apparent in message board posts. Trust me, there is no way I want to actually eat any of you regardless of your socio-economic status. Most of you are far too old and gamey. The slow cook it would require just isn't worth it.

Let me reiterate I have nothing against anyone going to a fest VIP or SVIP. Some of, well one of, my best friends is going VIP this year and went SVIP last year. Pam and I go VIP to some festivals. And Love it. We are doing our own version of VIP by renting an RV. Everyone that does go VIP and/or SVIP will have a great time. As well they should. As well I would.

Having said all that... THE MUSIC SHOULD BE FREE MAN!

 Funny thing is last night when I was feeding our dogs a Blade movie was on tv where Wesley Snipes is a vampire that can go out into the sunlight & they called him a daywalker. Didn't really watch it but if I see someone with a wristband that indicates they have a day pass I will keep away from them, damn bloodsuckers.

I'm from Norfolk, 56, first festival, car camping VIP solo but with 4 RV's of friends in GA/RV plus lots of other young friends
scattered about. My daughter, a fest veteran, gave me coolness instructions for father's day.

Arriving Friday a.m. as of now. Otherwise I'd help anyone set up and would love the return favor on the big tent.

I'm looking forward to being near the stage, with relatively sane neighbors and not-so-crowded facilities.

I like to cook. When you smell the coffee and bacon cooking in the morning, come on by!
