I never even knew about this feature before and now I'm sort of obsessed with it. Thanks! But yeah, it's definitely showing strange things for me on Lockn' weekend, as well.

On Thursday August 22, it shows me visiting Legend Valley in Ohio.

On Saturday August 24, it has me starting off the day at the Holiday Inn in Lynchburg (correct) then driving 2,194 miles to Gorge Amphitheater in 4 hours & 43 minutes, then turning around and driving all the way back in only 56 minutes (WOW!) and arriving in Arrington, VA by 7pm.   

On Sunday it put me at the venue of the Firefly Music Festival in Delaware.

If I go back to 2016 Lockn', it shows me at Randall's Island in NYC for at least part of the day both Friday and Saturday. At least I got to fly there instead of driving impossibly fast. And Friday there's a bonus side-trip to Grant Park in Chicago, which apparently hosts classical music concerts in the summer.

And like happyone, I have never been to Legend Valley, Gorge, Firefly, Randall's Island, or Grant Park.

It looks like in the deep inner workings of Google Maps, there is a problem with differentiating music/festival venues.

Prejudice in, prejudice out as well. Although I guess garbage is garbage.

The way I always heard that axiom was "garbage in, garbage out."

I think it has to do with how they configure those mobile towers. Sometimes, the tech knows what they are doing and configure the location and end-points (the network exit to the Internet) so it functions like a stationary. Other times, they just flip the thing on, and it's got an old config so it's broadcasting some far-off location and routing packets through a bunch of private hops until it gets to the gateway that the LAST tech set it up for.

It's also why the network is so abysmal at times. It's going through a bunch of long-distance hops to get to a local end-point. So your signal is good, but your latency is through the roof.
