Down By The River is a relatively new one (most are traditional songs) but Neil Young claims it's not a murder ballad:  With the refrain of "I shot my baby - down by the river," this song gets your attention. In a 1970 interview with Fusion, Neil Young cleared it up: "There's no real murder in it. It's about blowing your thing with a chick. See, now in the beginning, it's 'I'll be on your side, you be on mine.' It could be anything. Then the chick thing comes in. Then at the end it's a whole other thing. It's a plea... a desperation cry."

"Hey Joe" although premeditated, at least includes an explanation for the killing--an unfaithful wife.  I said explanation, not excuse.  written c. 1962.  Seems like many of the traditional murder ballads do not reveal a reason and the women often are fragile or gentle. 

That contract would be Exhibit A at her murder trial!  But there are only two questions in a murder trial:  Did the person need killing, and did the right person do it. 

If that's the case, I think she walks free (if it did come to that scenario)!

if she complies with your wishes, she can use her money wisely to get a simple pardon from the governor.  That said, it doesn’t make her innocent, it doesn’t overturn her conviction, and it doesn’t expunge her criminal record, as any average lawyer knows.
