Kobe Bryant passed away today in a helicopter crash in Southern California. The Mamba was controversial, polarizing and outspoken. But he was a great Basketball player. While Jordan & Larry Bird were my basketball heroes of my youth, but Kobe was the star of my adulthood. Man was a competitor unlike any other, he was well versed and a true scholar of life, the world & basketball. He will be missed and his void will never be filled. Enjoy that 5 on 5 in the sky, brother.

As I diehard Celtics fan, I thought I despised Kobe while he played. But once he retired, I realized just how much I appreciated his greatness. Watching the Lakers and Celtics meet in the finals again, and Kobe and Pierce go head to head, back and forth is my favorite Basketball memory as an adult.( Besides UVA winning the 'Ship last year) RIP Mamba

I couldn't care less about basketball, but I'm starting to see from the responses from the fans just how much of a loss this is. Apparently he was really big on supporting women's basketball and a really great dad. Seeing public figures on TV breaking down in tears on national TV surprised me. This tweet kind of opened my eyes.

I don't watch much pro bball, but from what I've seen and heard Kobe was a good person & very much revered. His death has surprisingly affected me today more than I would have imagined.
