This summer, King Crimson and an ensemble consisting of alumni from Frank Zappa’s bands will join forces for a tour of North America. An announcement on KC’s DGMLive.com website notes the tour will span six weeks in June and early July. So far, just one concert of the run has been confirmed.
King Crimson and the Zappa band will play Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia on June 30. Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning on Saturday, February 22 at 10 a.m. ET according to the venue.
Guitarist Mike Keneally revealed he will be joined in the Zappa band by fellow FZ alums bassist Scott Thunes, guitarist Ray White and multi-instrumentalist Robert Martin as well as Zappa Plays Zappa drummer Joe “Vaultmeister” Travers — the musicians who participated in the Bizarre World Of Frank Zappa tour, aka the Hologram Tour. A report indicates former Zappa Plays Zappa guitarist Jamie Kime will also be part of the Zappa band. Full details are expected soon.

The Frank Zappa Band opened and these guys were awesome. I wasn't familiar with a lot of the songs but they were well played. Super fun!

King Crimson was just fucking amazeballs and was on the top of my bucket list shows to see. This was the last stop of the US tour and maybe the last time they will ever tour. They had three drummers and all three drum kits were in the front on the lowest part of the stage instead of stuck in the back where most bands place them. For lighting there was nothing fancy, no spotlights putting the focus on one musician over another at any time. Just white lights illuminating the whole stage. The musicianship for this group is top notch and I don't know that I ever heard any music played so well, so tight. At any one time you cold hear multiple time signatures being played, sort of like one of my other favorite bands is known to do. Tony Levin is a beast on the bass and Robert Fripp, well no words needed. So glad I was finally able to see him live and in color. I had played some KC on the stereo for Mrs. TOO to hear and she was unimpressed. Said that this is music that you have to take acid to listn to . Well during the show she was tapping her feet and bobbing her head and she said that she really enjoyed the show. It was great for her as she was unfamiliar with the music and basically experienced it live for the first time she heard it. This show was one for the ages, epic to say the least.
