Aluminum solo cups

Very cool! I'm assuming they are somewhere in between steel pints and plastic. Are they meant to be reusable or just recyclable?

Probably more reusable than a plastic cup.

The problem is health regulations. You're not allowed to serve a beverage by refilling the drink container - you have to use new or sanitized containers only.

But if you're using aluminum it means they're a lot easier to deal with the recycling.

So how does Floydfest, Festy, Hoopla, etc, get around this? They use stainless steel pints and refill the same container.

Great idea. People are used to the idea of recycling aluminum, and it's about the only recycled good that has held market value for resale as scrap; the rest is thin or close to a loss.

I'd think the cost is about the same as a solo, but more than the thinner cups they usually use. The pass-through difference is probably negligible. However, the venue or vendor probably won't realize the scrap value. Maybe the governor can give a 1% sales tax break for sales using those cups, to "get in on it" and defray the additional cost?

The goodwill for the venue/vendor will be very good. I also like that it isn't made from petroleum, a benefit even if it wasn't recycled.

I really liked that set up at Floyd; I was on the pouring end.  On the drinking end, I learned the hard way - spring for the add-on rubber holder band and carabiner and clip it to your belt for festivals. Those cups have legs, it turns out.

I like this fact a lot, but I wonder if it is achieved mostly by big, heavy, industrial items.  Still too many instances of good people throwing aluminum cans in the wrong bins, assuming the right bins are even always there.  I tow all that stuff back home so I know it gets done right.  Just my own OCD.    We need as many Mother Nature brownie points as we can get.  Who knows, maybe a world wide natural crisis will come at us some day.  Oh wait.  Where do we cash those Mother Nature points in?

I get that--it's like people who think electric cars are all green.
