What are you making?

Did not attempt ice dying as I had intended but I had a ton of fun. The tapestry is actually pretty damn cool. The meet and greet shirts remind me of a certain type of balloons you may recognize. Will be dying more stuff soon.

Thanks, but I was a little disappointed. The best dye is probably the last one I did (black one), just trying to use up the black dye and see how gray would turn out.

Used the tulip artisan kit. But will order a kit from dharma next time, I think.

Did the stitching of the seams not pick up the dye?  That's a neat effect any way you did it.

Dharma can be a bit expensive, cos you have to buy a couple of ounces at a time and lighter colors require doubling or even tripling the amount of dye. If you dye a lot though, it saves you money in the long run because it doesn't have the soda ash fixer already mixed in (or urea, but urea's cheap). The soda ash is great for getting the dye to affix to the fabric, but when you add it directly to the dye you wind up having about a 45 minute window to dye before your dyes will end up super light. And the Tulip dyes are usually pastel to begin with. They're fine for a kids'party, but if you don't use it all up you're outta luck.

Oh, and never by your soda ash from the dye company. They try to act like it's some exotic chemical and charge an arm and a leg. It's just sodium carbonate, commonly referred to as "washing soda." You can find it in the laundry aisle dirt cheap. Look for the familiar Arm & Hammer logo. Speaking of which, you can use baking soda, but you have to use so much your liable to get little undisolved clumps sticking to your duds.

I turned my son’s old bedroom into my sewing room. I’ve been buying tie dye fabric online and making palazzo pants and skirts. This week I’ve been making scarves and headbands with the leftover fabric.

cutting torch, the hardest part is seeing your marks after you start cutting. They disappear pretty quick. Plasma cutter would probably be better but we don't have one.

We have a pile of around 15-20 that I emptied today. May make some more this weekend, figured we could put these out in front of the shop for decoration.
