Recently had GI surgery, and now that I am healthy, I'm determined not to let my new ileostomy keep me from doing the things I love! Has anyone had experience with doing a camping festival with an ostomy? Any tips? I'm thinking I actually have an advantage in the port-a-john category.

I'v had my ostomy for 2 years now. Colon-rectal cancer. This will also be my first festival but I'm not real worried about it. Kind of a experiment. I just plan on bring plenty of extra supplies & have a great time. It dose have a advantage at times except when your body decides to get rid of some gas & it rattles against that bag like a little speaker box LOL.

I to have an ileostomy not my first fest since and NO FUCKING WAY am I letting A LITTLE bag get in the way I live my life alter it a little yes interfere NO!!!!!!! Bring twice what you would use at home that's what I'm doing any way. We should ALL get together and stare at ALL the "normal" poopers I tell all my friends don't be jealous cuz I can poop two different ways.

Good for her. She's a brave person. I wear a cover over mine that way if it pops out from under my shirt nobody sees a possibly dirty bag. Also when you get patted down going in to a venue. Been asked a couple of times whats under your shirt. Only 1 person looked at me funny when I said a ostomy. Lifted my shirt & they gave me a nervous look & passed me on.

So surprised to see an entire topic on this. My husband has one. I would say it is a major advantage when dealing with a porta! He doesn't let it slow him down at festivals AT ALL, in any way, believe me. I am pretty sure no one else even notices. He brings along more than enough change out supplies just in case though.

I love this thread that Mandy4682 opened. It's nice to know you're not alone, although you hope nobody has to have one. The posts have given me more confidence on my first real outing with it. Thanks to everyone.

Your mind does get blown on something like this. People always say I wish I could live back in those old days. Reminds me of festivals gone by. I could hear the trucks in the early cooler morning go around to clean the porta's & get up to do my morning business in a clean one with fresh tp. port o potties are not bad, just follow these rules. 1. take a bandana with you to slide down from your forehead to your nose. if possible, spritz it with something nice smelling. 2. wet wipes are your friend. good for wiping the porto seat and your seat. follow these two rules, and you can survive the worst shit boxes a festival has to offer.
also yes, the sound of a shit truck is a sweet sweet sound. follow it to a glorious, clean, sub 100+ degree shit box
