Smarter Playlists
Post by happyone on Nov 5, 2020 9:37:28 GMT -5
One thing that annoyed me about Spotify was the daily mixes didn't really seem to be mixes, it was like 6 different genre pigeonholes and never shall they mix.
The functionality i liked in Pandora was 'shuffle all' where it would take all my stations and just mix it all up.
But I found Smarter Playlists for Spotify, it probably saved me from cancelling spotify and going back to pandora.
I go to smarter playlists daily, mix up my new bigger daily mix and thats my play list for the day.
It took me a few attempts to figure out the interface, its not full of hand holding and ease of use but once I got it going I love it.
Here is what my Daily Mix Mix looks like:
Here is the link to the playlist, its obviously centered around my musical tastes you would have to update to match yours

Pandora goes deep into old jazz and classical; Spotify couldn't even find Vivaldi's Four Seasons, which is pop classical.
When I tried "Moon Alice" on Spotify it ran all female vocalists--which is not what that band does IIRC. But it's good for a specific artist (Steve Earle is a good one to run).
My word's but a whisper; in deafness, a shout.

Split up by era's in my life, what i listened to in high school, college etc.
So its not exactly genre because I was listening to Classic Rock with a mix of new wave/pop in high school. Alternative/Independent Rock, Progressive and Classic Rock in college and so on.
In Spotify I made a 'Smarter Jam Bands/Lockn' mix using that smarter playlist site using the artist radio function to pull in the related stuff. So GD Radio, Phish Radio, WSP Radio, Allman Bros Radio, TTB Radio all mixed together with dups removed.

It's a point of relaxation to let someone else make the decisions.

Seriously, my town is truly blessed with the best FM listening radio--for example, instead of a weekly "jazz hour" we have a live experienced jazz musician/teacher DJ a 4 hour show weeknights and Sundays. True, there are gaps, and I have varied tastes (listening to one of the country's few 24 hour classical stations now--with real DJ's).

The way I figured it out was to look at the examples and just migrate the example to my playlists by cut pasting the share URI link in spotify into the playlists.
