I'd like to know what folks use for a flag pole. I've seen some online...just wanted to get some other thoughts. Also - what are you flying? I had a blow=up 'Gumby' on our car hood...and an American flag on what was about an 8ft pole (above the SUV) last year. I'd like to add a longer one or two and some flags. Being a Wharf Rat....likely a yellow flag too! Yea....was lookin' at those. The holder is more than the pool....geesh! Bought! Thanks. The only thing I questioned when getting the setup...the footings. I'm sure I could have made or even had something that would work. Then I thought...I always do that and it takes way more time. LOL I spent less on the 4 items than I was going to on just 2 of the fiberglass poles. I use a painters extension pole and tie it to my ezup.
As for flags I have a variety...from dead bears, to a cuban flag.
My latest addition this year is my co-ed fraternity flag.
If you choose to do a pirate flag, beware, people will try to steal it and wont care what damage they do in the process.

True. The pole has lasted me a few years but I expect it to eventually crap out. The holder, going to last me forever. What I do is carry some foam pipe insulation that is slid over the pole the length of the first joint. It keeps it from rubbing on the paint of my car. I pull up so the front tire is sittng on the base and then zip tie it to the rear view. On the rv we just zip tied it to the ladder on the back. I'm kind of bummed about my flag tho. For about 3-4 years mine was the only one I saw like it. Last year at Lockn I saw 3 or 4 of them flying. I guess imitation is a show of respect but screw those guys.

I use an old telescoping tent pole of unknown origin, but it's mighty long. Tie it to the ez-up and fly a Maryland old school (the cartoon looking one, not the newer mean looking one) Testudo flag.

I've been toying with the idea of getting a new custom one but 1) they cost a ton and 2) I have a nagging feeling it would stay on my flagpole about 15 minutes after the first time I left camp never to be seen again. But if I did this is what I'm thinking for the artwork...

I used plastic pipe. You see how I did the top by my avitar. I used S40 Pvc. The bottom is 2" about 5' long with one end cut at a angle to pound in the ground about a foot. The rest I use 1-1/2". First pc is 3' long with a coupling glued to one end. You put that in the 2" pipe & it will stop at the coupling. You glue the next pc of pipe to the other side & cut it to how high you want it. I cut that in half & glued male & female adapters so I can take it apart to fit in my car. On the top of that I put a male adapter & on the cross part at the top I put a tee that is soc x soc x female thrd. I put 2' pcs on each side to complete it. I put grommets in the flag & screw it into the pipe. I also added 2 little solar lights that you can see a good distance at night. I've had it for a while & it was cheap to make.

I used to do something similar to that with pvc. Big difference was I would carry a piece of rebar and pound that down into the ground and then put the pvc over it. It wasn't REAL secure but it worked.

No not really. OK maybe. I had a good time planing it out & putting it together. Just a little project, tinkering around. The material didn't cost much, I had the extra time & have something to fly for my work. Also it comes apart & stores in a small place where the wife doesn't complain

Thank goodness ADA is small. I think we'll br able find our tent without a flag/totem.
Last year, we just rememberd our proximity to other people's totems.

Sue got a telescoping pole that's held down by one's car tire. After re-reading this thread, I'm a bit concerned: do these types have a tendency to rub on the paint job? Should we maybe strap it to the EZup instead? Anybody have experience with these?

I should probably pick up a swimming pool noodle to put around the pole to protect the paint on the car. A swimming pool noodle or some foam pipe insulation from home depot. We use the pipe insulation and it works great. I park to front tire on it and then snug it up to the side mirror with zip ties. At Lockn with the RV I zip tie it to the ladder. In good weather, tie it to the ezup leg sounds good. If the wind starts to honk I would get nervous but then again if the wind really starts to blow I lower mine a bit just to be safe.
