My favorite set yet. I'm sensing they get more Dead-heavy through the last three sets...

I thought this was the best night of music. I loved the Jimmy Martin tune & “Pretty Daughters” was excellent. I used to love when Yonder & Jeff Austin used to do it. “Midnight Moonlight” is always one of my favs. The “Dire Wolf” & “”Dark Hollow” were great but the “Lay Me Down” was my favorite Dead tune of the run.

This just in:
following six shows at The Capitol Theatre, Billy Strings has now announced his next round of fan-less concerts set to take place in New Orleans and Austin in March.
Strings and his band will host live virtual webcasts from Tipitina’s in New Orleans on March 24th–25th and from Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater in Austin, TX the following evening on March 26th. The ticketed streams for all three shows will air in HD via Nugs.net starting at 10 p.m. ET each night. Money raised will benefit Tipitina’s “Save Tip’s” fundraising initiative and the Austin-based SIMS Foundation, which provides mental health and substance use recovery services and supports musicians, music industry professionals, and their families.

I don’t think anyone’s been as active as Billy Strings during COVID. He’s done drive-in’s in multiple states, done streaming runs from Nashville & The Cap, did streams from the Mother Church (The Ryman) & The Happiest Place on Earth (Red Rocks). Dude has the Merch game on lockdown, sells out poster runs in less than 3 minutes. He’s kept the money flowing for him & his, kudos to him. Now he’s doing live shows in Florida w/ fans & another run of streams. Any band on the come up should take note, this is how you build a fan base. And any established band should take note too, this is what people want now, the replays of old shows was cool last spring & summer but it’s time to “let there be songs to fill the air”. We need SCI, Panic, Phish, TAB and Phil & Family Band to play some streams.

I am just listening to this last night now. A remarkable closing night. He's as fine a practitioner of the tradition as anyone to come around for quite some time. I don't think you can sell out arenas jamming on an acoustic and filling a set with lots of bluegrass, but sky's the limit for Billy depending on what he wants to do. Hopefully he'll do what he most wants to do, no matter what that is.

I agree whole heartedly about his talents. Dude is up there with Tony Rice & can flat out pick a flat top. I think he’s best served in Theaters on the east coast, small (4,000 seat) amphitheater’s in the Midwest & South & on the west coast. In places like Nashville, he could always fill The Ryman & maybe Ascend with another act. And in Colorado he can sell out Red Rocks or any other venue. His appeal is growing & his fanbase is turning into a traveling one like other bands. His best bet for a full big shed tour is a crossover tour with Marcus King with a Strings & Kings set each night after both bands play or a big time Bluegrass lineup of The McCoury’s, GSBG, RRE, Leftover Salmon, etc, in some sort of combination. But no matter what, the dude’s star is on the rise.
