Hey guys! I'll be coming from Alabama towing a vintage tramper. Should I take 29 or I 81? I've seen some saying 29 the whole way but I 81 looks faster. I'm trying to make it to Lynchburg VA in one day to meet up with my people. ... Thanks so much and I can't wait!

I'm guessing you are talking about 75>40>81>450>29 or 85>29. Not sure where in AL you're coming from so I said Birmingham. Looks like 81 would be a little shorter and a little quicker.The 81 route would be more scenic but also more hills to drag a trailer up. 29 from Greensboro up isn't a bad drive.

Yup...coming from Birmingham. So yall think 81? I do love the scenic route tho....but I'm crunched for time and pulling a camper. Thanks! !

Yes, I would definitely go I-81 then to 460 across to 29

Would like to recommend www.travelmath.com. It's a great site to help with travel planning, offers a little more info as compared to Google directions. Just type in your start and end points in the search fields provided, then select things like driving time, gas cost, 1/2 way point, etc. .... then you'll have to scroll down and click on the map to see the shortest route. The map allows you to change the route by clicking and dragging, then it will recalculate the mileage and drive time.

Great tip, CR&S! We are gonna have to spend Wednesday night either at a campground or maybe a Walmart parking lot. I think I read there is a KOA close to Arrington. I'm so ready to be there now!

Oh good, glad you liked that site, it's been so helpful to plan our LockN / Va trip. At first we thought we crash somewhere w/in 45 min drive on Wednesday night, but we found a cool AIR BnB rental on Chesapeake Bay, so decided to stay an extra night there and just leave before sunrise on Thursday AM and drive 3+ hours to LockN....eliminates one extra night of load in / load out. We have friends who will be saving us a spot in Preferred Camp. We've never been to DC / VA, so are turning this into a true vacation, as I always say that "Touring is hard work!"Great tip, CR&S! We are gonna have to spend Wednesday night either at a campground or maybe a Walmart parking lot. I think I read there is a KOA close to Arrington. I'm so ready to be there now!

I have a friend who lives in Portland. She gives high marks to StringSummit and I can see why. I hope Sam Bush plays with Yonder Mountain. Seeing that at the Ryman was one of the high points of my LIFE.Going "on tour" in our state (Oregon)starting tonight! Outstanding. We have always wanted to go to both of those. One day west coast festies will be mine. Oh yes they will.Going "on tour" in our state (Oregon)starting tonight! Off to the infamous Oregon Country Fair www.oregoncountryfair.org/photo_gallery.php and then next week to www.stringsummit.com - check out this artist lineup! So excited to get on the road tonight.
Just looked at String Summit lineup. Probably see Allie Kral (ex Cornmeal) play with YMSB too. Greensky 2X, Stringdusters & Sam Bush alone make this legit. The Motet being on the bill is kind of out of place but make sure you see them. Great horn section and one of the reasons I love going to Camp Barefoot. They never disappoint. And check out ScottT Law with Samson Grisman, Tyler Grant and Andy Thorn. Andy Thorn (Leftover Salmon) is the real deal. Lots and lots of great music there.

Wow that sounds like good times. Be safe & have a great time, not sure that goes together but do both. I'll have to settle for our local Three Rivers Festival. Friday night Cheap Trick, Sat night Blues Traveler, Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth & Uncle Kracker. We see Allie and Scott Law weeknights around Portland when they are not on tour. Allie rocks! ... Sam Bush will for certain play w/ YMSB at some point...hoping that Vince and Andy will play together but can't tell if that will happen yet. Vince just moved to southern Oregon, so he's around a lot. Horning's Hideout is really high on our list of places to see music. Crazy thing is you drive right by one of the primiere golf courses in America. Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club with the Ghost Creek and the Witch Hollow tracks are top notch. And then there are hippies doing what hippies do right up the road.

We've taken 81 end to end and never had any issues with this road.
