Fellow Lockn Deadheads and music lovers, I need your help.
I can't decide about how my friend and I should camp. I've been to Lockn before, but only in an RV, and that's not happening this year.
The options are car camping or forest camping. Here are the questions I've come up with (and explanations):
1. Which would/did YOU pick? And why?
2. Location. I read on here that it's a very short distance from your parked car to forest camping so that nullifies my fear of having to haul my equipment a half mile uphill on Monday morning, wagon or not. That being said, where is car camping in relation to forest camping? parking for forest camping? and the stage?
3. I have never been able to handle heat very well and now that I'm getting older it's becoming even more of an issue. For those who know, is it bearable to be in the forest from 9am-9pm? Local temps have been hitting the low 90s recently. The biggest PRO (pro vs con) for car camping is the ability to hop in and turn on the a/c whenever, assuming that's allowed - is it? Also, would I be able to go from forest camping to my parked car a few times a day and get a dose of a/c if I need it? If so, then that would all but seal the deal for forest camping.
4. If it's possible to answer, what's the crowd typically like in each spot? We won't know many people going so it would be nice to be surrounded by like-minded people (laid back folks who enjoy meeting new people, staying up all night, drinking, jamming on acoustic instruments, etc, as opposed to people who go to bed at midnight and are looking for a quiet weekend with some live music mixed in - no offense to such people, but I'm looking for a different experience).
5. If I choose forest camping will I also have to purchase a weekend parking pass?
6. Does anyone have experience with converting the back of an SUV to a place to sleep? If so, what products do you recommend, if any? There are a million to choose from on amazon and the like. If I end up choosing car camping I'm trying to decide between either a pop-up tent or a vehicle mattress & elastic screen coverings for the vehicle windows and moon roof. This will be moot if I choose forest camping.

All this being said, I would personally prefer to be in nature surrounded by trees and plants and animals as opposed to being in an unshaded field. It's only for the above possible reasons that I'd choose against it. I look forward to your feedback! Thanks everyone!
