I hear ya, may try that next. Honestly I don't think any of them are designed to withstand 50mph gust unless you go WAY up in price and get the heavy duty commercial grade canopy. I guess the ambassador withstood those gusts at LOCKN so that's not bad...

At the last big Lockn', a friend who was there, and is a harbor pilot and knows WX, estimated 70 mph on a big gust. He had a 8 x 16 commercial grade tent, like a car port, that blew up and over his RV and landed next door. His site was also right at the top of the hill.

You're right; none of these products are made for those conditions which are like having them set up on a flatbed rolling down the highway. And to help storm-proof they should be tied down from the top, not just staked at the bottom (newbn taught me this).

yes top and bottom.  But guy wires are a pain and hazard in crowded camping areas populated by stumblers, though. So a straight-down tie from the top can be a big help without the stumble hazard.

How about reinforcing the feet/pole connection by gooping a metric shittonne of JB weld at the insert? Drilling a bolt through may weaken the unit if it's thin.

Too bad you can't buy anything these days without having to fix it before you use it.

Good move.  My EZUp is 20 plus years old.  Heavy, and heavy duty.

Which model do you have?

Mine is from Costco about 15 years old, much heavier duty than most, and it has sides. The top does not come off. The frame pieces are about 50% larger than the typical ones and the hardware is sturdier. Cost about $150 back then.

To me, repairable would be 100% better than toss the whole thing in the trash.

I didn't realize that they sold replacement parts, guess I should have looked. My frame was pretty much destroyed but I probably tossed $200 worth of parts. I do have a canopy top and four side walls for a 10 x 10 in pristine condition. Kind trades allowed...

We had 7 canopies strapped together during Locknado. Probably 10 of us holding them all down before somebody figured out to start stripping the tops off. I just remember looseankles looking at me with a terrified look on her face as if to say "do you think we are going to survive"
