I agree with this pretty much the whole way… I’ve never thought Bill was the one holding back tempo & innovation. His side projects from BK3, Seven Walkers, Rhythm Devils & Billy & The Kids were all pretty up beat & unique. Whereas Weir post Ratdog especially has slowed it down, be it the Campfire Band or The Wolf Brothers Trio. After he came back from Rehab in 2014 he was just “slower” all around. I think Bill wants to let Mayer & Chimenti shine more, probably have guest like Magner do sit in’s and maybe explore some of the things he’s picked up over the years from his Bisco Sit in’s and explore different spaces. Whereas Bob wants to be the star & do things his way.
I do agree though, that Bill should have stuck it out. Things weren’t gonna change for the last go around. I also still think money had some part in it. They have to pay Jay Lane somehow and that cuts into somebody’s piece of the pie.

I'm probably not going to any of these shows anyway, lets just say I have creative differences with Bob.
But any personality, creative, logistical, tempo, endurance, whatever problems should have been known and resolved before they tricked a gazillion people into buying tickets.
All that being said, if some lawn seats pop up last minute for Jiffy Lube and my health is good that week, I'll probably end up going

“Creative” could be alotta things, from setlist input, new covers that get played, venues they play, who sells their tickets, who gets sit in’s, etc… it doesn’t have to be tempo.

I kinda agree with you… everybody says Bob Weir is the greatest rhythm guitarist ever… but IDK what the hell that means. To me that’s like saying somebody is the greatest “bench player” in basketball or the greatest nickel back or slot receiver in football… there’s a reason he didn’t play lead, because the other guy was better. He doesn’t even play lead in his own band. I think people make excuses for Bob Weir to compensate for his faults and get involved in hero worship as opposed to being subjective and being honest about his vocals & guitar playing. That said he’s like Willie Nelson, he’s paid his dues and can write his own ticket and do as he pleases.

What I like about DSO and Last Fair Deal, their "Bobby" guys play great lead so you have two guitars going at it. Yes i know Bobby and Jerry did that and each was not locked in to his role, but this is how the new iterations expand the jam.

He was adding a lot of notes and overtones to chords to give Jerry more scale range.

So with all that intro, turns out my possible family group of 4 is now 6, and interest has increased, so we are rapidly checking out the situation. I was going to hope to find a couple last minute miracles or scalper dumps. Some in my group say they are shopping lawn tickets from Ticketmaster official, and I am NOT seeing those offered. Just resales and platinums for reserved seating.
More specific questions: anyone seeing or finding "real and verified" lawn seats for Bristow now, anyone know wtf happened for Lube sales in this crazy 2022/2023 occurence (some other venues remained officially available for months), anyone looking now who wants to trade notes and info?
If this post is too chaotic, it's because I'm rushing to avoid my group from buying scam tickets at what they believe are $120 lawn tickets direct from ticketmaster. I wasn't seeing anything from TM, and nothing at that price readily available, until I just saw some on Seat Geek in that range a minute ago. Cash or trade seems to have tight supply for that night. This whole final tour thing gave me a really rotten taste in my mouth, given that we attended every single previous Dead & Co DC show with no problems getting tickets.

I don't see any lawns for sale through TM. StubHub has lawns for $129 "plus fees". May be your best bet. They may drop day of show if you can wait. There will be some miracles but they'll be few and far between. Scalper dumps, wouldn't count on it. Buy the ticket. Take the ride. This is it.
