Cable vs Streaming

From what I understand sports can be challenging while streaming (lord knows I hear enough bellyaching on the Wake boards) while streaming music is easy.

Depending on what type of input the family room tv does have, you should be able to get a converter from that to HDMI, then you can use a Roku, FireStick, Apple TV to stream.

I switched from the max-channel package of fios to streaming only with youtubetv. I also have netflix, hulu/disney+, and hbomax. I get hulu/disney free with my verizon wireless plan and a discount on hbomax with an annual plan.

At first my wife was a little unhappy with the change but now it feels about the same and I think she is ok with it.

TOO is right, lots of tvs have the apps built in. But depending on how old your tv is the built in apps might run better on roku. And rokus are pretty cheap.

I use an Xbox Series X on our main tv, and rokus on our satellite tvs.

I think in general the more powerful streaming device you have the better things run. People say nvidia shield or apple TV are the best, but they are also expensive. The Xbox Series X is really powerful too but probably overkill if you dont game (I do)

I watch TONS of sports. I've not noticed any negative.

Our main tv is also fed into my av receiver for 5.1 surround sound. Thats probably the best setup for concerts, I can shake the house streaming JRAD concerts on youtube (not when the wife is home though!)

Thanks for your responses. While I was busy typing my questions to you all Bob was downstairs changing our service with Verizon Fios. YouTube TV will replace our Cable TV and will stream via Chromecast. He said we have Roku on the tv in the exercise room and we have 5.1 surround sound. I guess I should go downstairs more often. Hahaha

You'll adjust more quickly than you think. We gave up cable 7 or 8 years ago. We only do a live streaming service during football season, so we get everything else from Hulu, Paramount, Peacock, the free PBS app, and HBO Max. We also have Netflix and Amazon Prime, but I think of them more as a replacement for movie rentals than as a replacement for cable. Roku is king! My parents have a "smart" TV that is impossible to work. But my dad mastered the Roku quickly.
