I’ve been to Hulaween every year it’s happened but one. It’s the best. As for camping, the best spot is “Special Persons Camping” or “Horse Camping”… they’re right by the MainStage, the playground and the permanent bathhouses. You can park your RV there, we did. They electric & water there & dumping stations in those places that are free to use.
Other good spots are “Hidden Woods” and “Loop Camping” those places are close to the stages, general store and other fun. There’s also cabins you can rent & tree houses. But those are probably long booked. Everyone will say you gotta be by Spirit Lake but I say, Spirit Lake is a great place to visit but not to camp unless you like “wild” and I mean “wild”. I’d stay away from the “Back 40”, “80 Acres”, “The Pine Forest” & the “Farm Fields”. Camping out by the bird sanctuary & the bat cave is cool though but you’re fucking far away.
As for golf carts, everybody has one. Most people bring their own & they’re all decked out. They run around in them all night. And people bring their horses and ride them everywhere and yes… there’s shit all over the place too. I definitely recommend the golf cart so you can visit all the other campgrounds & get to spirit lake for late night stuff without walking.
Suwannee is the greatest venue in the world for music, their motto “Live Music Lives Here” is accurate. I definitely think you should go. We always go in an RV but tent camping is cool too. People set up Canvas Tents that are like 30 Feet x 15 Feet and have A/C Units in them and couches and oriental rugs on the ground. It’s wild. Everyone just parties non stop. You can show up a week early & stay a week after too, it’s a great spot.

One year, Elephant Revival rolled around the campground on the backs of golf carts playing. They just roll up to your fire and start to jam then they’d bounce to the next group. It was cool.

Still can't get over the $830 fee to ride your own golf cart on their trails or the same $830 to bring a pet. How are those things equal in value?
Anyway I like the lineup and this is definitely on the list, we'll see...

We’ve always booked through Suwannee directly for our campsites. They have a map on their site & for a couple $100 you can pick your spot. A lot of the RV spots have Water & Electric Hookups. 80 Acres is like overflow camping for when they run out of “premium sites”. It’s not bad it’s just far away from stuff. The golf carts have went up every year. It’s easier to just rent the ones from the campground. All the cabins come with one. I recommend going for sure, it’s a great time. They have Ferris Wheel on the show field that you can ride during the shows and stuff, it’s dope. You lay out under the Bat Cave & hit deemsters as the bats all fly outta cave over your heads, you can chill at Spirit Lake and see all the art installations from Burning Man, they bring them to Hulaween. They have the field stage, the amphitheater stage & the lake stage. It’s a great time.

You’re riding in a taxi. It’s a good, durable ride, heading down a country road. It will dependably take you where you want to go. You’re riding with a few good buddies, enjoying each others’ company. The radio is playing some Grateful Dead tunes. You can’t complain. It’s a little warm and the AC isn’t working. But no problem, you’re having too good of a time to care. You look out the window…some trees, shrubs, couple flowers here and there. The radio begins playing Wilco. After a couple songs, you ask the driver if he can change the station. “Sorry man, the radio only gets one station.” Eh, no problem. The radio will get back to some good songs in no time. You look out the window again…trees and shrubs. Oh hey, Allman Brothers! Nice! You and your buddies continue living it up. You reach into the cooler and grab a nice local microbrew and the driver doesn’t even mind if you smoke a “j.” Tedeschi Trucks come on the radio and absolutely kill it, with Derek simultaneously channeling an Indian raga master and a bluesman from some obscure Mississippi juke joint. You look out the window….more trees and shrubs, but damned if those aren’t some nice trees and shrubs. Sadly, the ride comes to an end, but it was a good ride and you’re definitely looking forward to getting in that taxi next year.
HULAWEEN:
You’re riding in stretch limo with your significant other. You’re not exactly sure where you’re traveling but so far there are a lot of beautiful live oak trees dripping in Spanish moss. It’s early in the day so the radio is playing some folk/bluegrass to help you ease into the ride. The AC feels wonderful. The refrigerator is stocked with rare microbrews and types of whiskey you haven’t even heard of. There’s a large plasma screen TV for your viewing pleasure. Oh and hey, a vibrating seat! Sure, why the hell not? You ask the driver to change the radio station. “Of course, sir,” he replies and you are trying to relax but those tribal rhythms really make you want to shake your ass. You look out the window…a beautiful lake overflowing with artistic expression both on the shore and on the actual water. Go on, take your shoes off and let your feet soak in that heated bubbling foot massager. The tribal rhythms give way to the latest Claypool project, and after a couple of cold brews you say “Hell yeah, I’m into this!” You look out the window…people everywhere dressed in every possible fashion and color imaginable—the creativity is truly mind-blowing. You again ask the driver to change the station. “Of course, sir.” It’s a solo DJ set. Not something you would normally listen to. But damn, this is sounding great. The road comes to an end. “Shall I turn right or left, sir?” the driver asks. You and your significant other look at one another. “Surprise us,” you say. You look out the window…mazes of artwork. A huge swing set structure allowing many to swing at once. Architectural structures spitting fire. More stages with more music. “How is it even possible to experience all of it?” you ask the driver. “’Tis impossible, sir. The point is to just embrace and enjoy what you do get to experience.” The radio plays String Cheese’s Saturday night theme set. You can hear the crowd in between songs and know this is a party unlike any other. The road comes to an end. “Shall I turn right or left, sir?” the driver asks. “Right? No…left. Or maybe..” you begin to say, but the driver doesn’t let you finish. He floors the gas pedal and you go flying down a trail of blurry lights. Everywhere lights. Beautiful, beautiful lights. Blinking, flashing, spinning, twirling. The radio volume kicks up a bit and it is pumping some serious EDM. You have sworn to yourself over and over that you don’t like this kind of music. But you realize…that is a lie. You do like this music. No. You LOVE this music. Every beat flows through every cell in your body. You aren’t listening to the music…you ARE the music. You look out into a field of color that pulsates to the beat. Every sense is maxed out and it feels incredible. But sadly, the ride comes to an end. That’s okay. Your body and mind are in greater need of rest than you probably know. Be sure to hydrate and eat plenty of protein and you’ll be good and ready for that limo ride next year.
