I heard the first rumors of an ABB reunion. Derek Trucks and Oteil Burbridge are supposedly on board and I'm sure Warren Haynes would be as well. You could have Duane Trucks on drums, Duane Betts on guitar.

If you look at the way T and/or T of TTB put together that stellar Mad Dogs show, let them assemble the band as a recreation--not a reunion.

The show at MSG 4 years ago this week was billed "The Brothers" celebrating 50 years of the Allman Bros - All merch etc. was The Brothers or Brothers 50.
(It was stated that they wanted no part of a show billed as the Allman Brothers with no brothers)
Jaimoe asked Warren, Derek, Oteil, Marc if they would sign up for a one off and they obliged.
Then added in early contributors Reese Wyans & Chuck Leavell for good measure with Duane trucks filling in for uncle Butch.
It could happen if Jaimoe asks them to do a 55th in 2025 - I personally hope it happens as the 2020 show was one of the best concerts I've ever been too.

Speaking of "Brothers" when Duane was killed, Dickie didn't want the name to continue. Not out of honor for Duane. He wanted to get more attention.
Remind me--is Dickie still alive? I seem to recall that he died within the past couple years.

And I'll go see worthy people playing ABB music, too. It's the same conversation about certain musical acts that continue the sounds of a well-known act, with or without a sacred cow on stage.
There are lots of bands "still out there" with just one of the original musicians from 50 years ago (Marshall Tucker, Skynnard) and many who kept cranking for decades after the "main guy" checked out (Little Feat). "He was there for 7 of the 50 years". Grateful Dead perhaps could have continued on as Grateful Dead.
I was with a friend from Richmond who plays bass in a WSP band (Barstool Rodeo) that only plays music from, and in the style of, the Mickey Hauser era, saying Herring brought a change of direction (Change of direction!) that wasn't bad, just different.
Personally, I'm not about seeing an old guy just because he was once a young guy; I want talent. Same goes with seeing their spawn.
It's just something to rap about. Mox nix. Bring on the tunes!
BTW the Allman Betts band is really good and they do only a few ABB songs--I say to their credit. Lucas Nelson doesn't do Willie. And if you want a decent Virginia bar band for ABB, check out Sky Dog.

1.) Dickey Betts is still alive, but he’s not in touring shape. He had to cancel his last set dates I do believe due to his health. But he is & will always be an Allman Brother. That dude and his little red guitar carried that band for alotta years. He may be a prick, a drug addict & an asshole but homie can flat out pick a flat top as good as anyone who ever lived.
2.) They need to do a tribute run of shows with Derek, Susan, Warren, Oteil, Jaimoe, Marc, Duane Trucks, Chuck Leavall or Marco Benevento on keys and maybe somebody like Russo or Jason Hann to help or replace Jaimoe if he’s not up to it.
3.) It doesn’t matter what they call it, it’ll be Allman Brothers music and that’s what fans will call it, the same we all still call it a “Dead Show” whether we see Phil, Wolf Brothers, Ratdog, Furthur or Dead & Co. Guys like Derek & Warren paid their dues and should be able to use whatever name they want. They made that brand alotta money & prolonged the careers & paydays for everyone ever associated with that band.
4.) I’d go see it.

Funny that at the original Watkins Glen show the jam among all the bands failed, and the reason was the different enhancements among them. The Band was drunk, ABB was coked and the Dead was tripping. So it says in a biography of ABB "One Way Out."

My first thought was that this is the same paradox presented by a river: after all the water has flowed past you, is it still the same river? Then researching it I found that smart guys in togas thought the same thing (no, not the Delta's). This is the Ship of Theseus paradox.

So is it still "my grandfather's axe" if both the head and handle had been replaced?
What if all the planks from the first ship were saved and reassembled--would that be the same ship as the first? Then what is the first one? (Hobbes)

Or debate the meaning of "same".

No one in DSO was in the Grateful Dead but it matters not. They play the music that I like to hear live. Hell DSO could play Allman Brothers music and I'd go listen...

To some, an original member matters. That's why that one octogenarian bass player still draws crowds. But not to me.
Someone owns the name, so just anyone can't go around claiming to be, for example, The Grateful Dead. But the owner of the name could always license a show with no original members, legally, but it would be a bad move, marketing-wise.
When I was booking old soul bands in college, and they were starting to wind down or break up, you had The Drifters, The Original Drifters, the Sounds of the Drifters, Joe Blow's Drifters, Fred Smith's Original Drifters, Bill Jones and the Drifters, etc etc.
Anyway anyone who knows me around here knows I'll go see a good bar band "tribute" or a top act like DSO or JRAD, before I'll go out of my way and out of my budget to see the original hangers-on like you know who.
