Shit Talk

Here is what we do. We have the privacy tent and bucket with lid. We double bag kitchen stretchy draw string type bags. Pour in some kitty litter, clumping is nice, and a dryer sheet. We won't set it up at Lockn because we are in an rv but we use it when we camp at festivals or just go camping. If it is just Pam using it mostly for light duty it stays relatively pleasant. If I use it for more heavy duty reasons the bags need to be changed out pronto. I try not to do that but sometimes...it's unavoidable. Then there is the question of disposal. If we are there for a while we collect our kitchen bags in a heavy duty big black trash bag. If I can hit a trash can or dumpster with it during the fest I will do that late night. If that isn't an option then we try and take it off site to a dumpster. I don't leave it in the general pile of trash bags when exiting. I don't want any of the green team mistaking it as possible recycling.

I have to say that some of our friends find it totally gross and abhorrent. Pam thinks it's the greatest. Your results may vary. And that is what I know about pooping in a bucket.

Be sure and set up your privacy tent when you get it. The first one I got was crap and I returned it. Poor design with WAY too much stress on the fiberglass poles that formed the dome. Snapped poles and ripped sleeves first time.

We got one of double size ones and it works really well. Enough room to have the commode in and to have a table with out plastic tub of clothes under it and stuff. I am leery of hanging a full shower bag from the ceiling. That just looks like it is asking for structural failure.

Actually, it has a removable bottom, which is important to us because we'll also use it for woods camping when we'll be digging a hole in the ground.  It does have vents in the top.  And I prefer that to not.  Odors can escape.  I'd rather get wet if it rains than be trapped with odor that has nowhere to go.  Can always throw a tarp over the top if I need it.

I like the idea of a mesh top.

i guess we need to worry about the ones who don't have a back-up plan.

hopefully that will be one of the management's "learning experiences" and they'll ramp it up.

Nope. Didn't think of the hole in the ground either. Live and learn. If we are carrying the privacy tent we are in our van and there is room for the bucket apparatus so I'm not sure if it is that big a deal. If it becomes an issue I'll cut an X in the bottom and peal it back. The bottom is vented with mesh borders for shower drainage so it isn't water tight anyways.

sounds like a question of timing and tolerance. Dim light probably serves well, too.
