I live in west Michigan (Grand Rapids to be exact) and about 4 years ago I went down to Charlottesville, VA. Well I left GR around 12am and arrived in charrlotesville at about 1. I can't remember for the life of me what route I took, but I remember around 5am starting to go up hill and by 6:30am I was in a frozen wonderland in the mountains (It was November mind you). As the morning progressed I made my way down the mountain (ziggin' and a' zaggin') where I found myself in lush beautiful forest with valleys and farmland thrown in. Does anybody have any idea where I was? I'm looking at the google maps directions from GR to Arrington, va acompared with GR to Charlotesville, VA and they're VERY similar routes. There's Highway 60 and Highway 250, I have a strong feeling it's highway 60, but I'm not 100%. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? Many thanks.

Probably got there from Interstate 64 East.

looking at the map again that sounds right. it looks like 250 dumps straight into charllotesville. Which brings me to another questions. As far as scenic routes go would you suggest 60 or 250? As far as traffic logistics go would you suggest 60 or 250?

For logistics and scenery I would take 250, exit on 151 to 6 and then 29 South to venue. Map to GA entrance:

This, although I intend to take 64E to Afton Mt.

If you are in Charlottesville this is longer as you would have to backtrack W to get there.

Entrances: the VIP/RV entrance is east on Oak Ridge so I suspect that others will be sent back to 29. Just guessing.

Routes: tantanka there is a long discussion in another thread on best routes once you get to Virginia and the biggest factor is
how/where are you coming into the state from the west. Typically it's 81 (N or S) or 64E. And they intersect both at
Staunton and Lexington.

The non-interstate routes are the most enjoyable to drive, unless you have a RV, trailer, darkness, short time, weather or fatigue.
The other post has info from several of us familiar with the options.
60 from Lexington is one of my favorites
56 from Fairfield (off 64) over the parkway to the fest area is purely sublime.
64 crossing Afton Mt is really cool too even though it's interstate.

that's 56. Awesome route for scenery, etc. Go home that way. it also crosses the
Parkway which is another great run for scenery; 45 mph and they mean it.
