Traffic Map

That map looks like the geoglyphs on the plains of Nazca. Maybe the New Area 51?

I am camping in RV but arriving in a car with other folks, parking my car with them and headed up to RV (where all my stuff is already minus my cooler). They are coming from upstate SC, as am I, but they will come up on US 29 northbound, they were told, and I am also going off the nelson county traffic map they have that if your northbound and are car camping, tent only camping, etc you are in the right lane. Thru traffic and RV/VIP traffic is left lane, which is then where I assume they will direct you to your proper entrance. If you are southbound, they will make you go 7.7 miles past the festival entrance on us-29 and make you do a u-turn then file in line like stated before. I am sure by the time 6AM thursday rolls around traffic patterns and the flow of it will be fine. So get on us-29 take in the beautiful surroundings, truck it on down the road and they will direct you to where you need to go 

If you're coming in from the south, driving north on U.S. 29, be careful to observe the speed limit, especially between Amherst and Oak Ridge. The speed limit changes from 70 to 65 to 55, and about a mile north of the 29/151 interesection, in Amherst County, there's almost always a police car with radar oarked in the oak trees in the median. Once you cross the Tye River, you are in Nelson County -- more breweries than stoplights is no lie, and one of the most beautiful counties in the state. Farms, mountains, the Appalachian Trail, cool people, bears, hawks, waterfalls, trees ... the Allman Bros, Steve Winwood, etc...

The hard asses seemed to switch in at "random".   

Depends on what you were caught with. If it was just something against the rules, it was just confiscated. Something illegal, I dunno for sure, but I'd say yes.

No matter how important it seems to some folks, neither I nor most of the power users on this forum will be posting any tips on how to smuggle illicit substances into this fest. Not directed at you, cmac; just want to have that out there.

Praying that their 6 lane processing center will run smoothly and efficiently.

ok here is what I have gathered from the traffic map...lol...I am coming from NY..(southbound).GA RV.

I roll down RTE 29 past the site entrance, go down to the turn around spot (U-turn), head back up 29 follow the red line up to James river road, then over to the purple line oak ridge road, to the RV VIP SVIP area..?...

do I read that right??

I asked one of the local people living in the area this;
I heard there's going to be a six lane processing area. Can you tell where it is?








She replied;

There are a couple of large areas for processing folks through. There are two very wide gates and roads completed I saw yesterday and they are working on a third.
Gate 1 is on your patron map and is located on Diggs Mtn Road immediately after the intersection with Oak Ridge Road. The email sent out to the VIP folks and RV folks the other day which was posted here will be using that gate.

The second is also on the Map and is also on Diggs Mountain Road. This gate intersects with Jay's Boulevard. The other end of Jay's Boulevard intersects with Route 29N and comes through the Day Parking area.

There is a third, Gate 13, I believe, which is labeled GA Ingress from Diggs Mountain Road. That is a gate which will ultimately merges into Lockn' Lane, I believe.

They also had a couple of places marked as "contingency" areas, where they could line folks up to access "contingency" gates if need be. One of those contingency gates, I believe, is on the map and is down near "The Tree." That entrance would put folks onto RV Ridge.

If you look at the patron map, the areas marked for "traffic congestion" are in red. Then there is a "green" area marked possible congestion which makes a loop down Arrington Road and back around to James River Road, where folks would ultimately turn left in Shipman onto Oak Ridge Road. I believe the plan is to use that loop through our beautiful landscape if things started getting backed up so Festival goers won't end up 14 lanes wide in a field.

Looks to me like they've put a lot of effort into this to make it work this year!

See, the one good thing about our experience last year is that as long as this year's wait is less than 11 hours, Sue and I are golden.
