That is an awesome find. Quality work, Bill!

But from what I can tell, the only difference in that plan versus last year is that they're bringing RVs in a different route.

Looks like they're counting on the 6:00 am opening to help alleviate the pressure.

They're going to try to get cars through the tollbooths fast enough to avoid having the line extend out of the field an onto Route 29. If they fail, they'll open up the secondary entrance off Arrington Road to get cars off the road. If they succeed, Arrington Road will be used for Day Walkers, thereby avoiding any potential for a repeat of the "field of broken dreams."

As long as they find a way to let people inside in the order they arrived, I think things will work out much better this year.

you know that they are going to do what they can to fix the problem last year--the first year--that caught them by suprise. Nonetheless, it sounds like every fest has a wait at the early arrival time (which suggests that later, not earlier, Thursday may be better; no tunes until 4 anyway).

Also we don't know if the entrance/search areas are larger with more staff, or other streamlining methods not shown on a map.

I'm not sweating it. But I'm not coming Thursday either! Tell me how it was....

That secondary entrance is the same as last year and just ends up meeting with the primary entrance. Unless they change something, there are not ticket takers or security checkpoints dedicated to the second entrance. I know because I was on that road for about 6 hours (2 PM to 8 PM) waiting to get in on Thursday. It was the worst being in that line, because cars that were already in the primary line for security/tickets were not allowing cars from the secondary road to merge.

I will refuse to take that secondary road if they try and direct my car there again this year. I will have my windows up, will be unable to hear the person directing traffic, and will stay on 29 until I can turn right onto Oak Ridge.

I am confused.  we got an email giving directions for our arrival from the south, and it says to go north on US 29 past the venue and take the road back south to the entrance (VIP).  Why aren't they having us come in from the south?  (Arrington road, etc.)

Maybe because of all the traffic for GA in the new lands they bought.

when you are dealing with mass traffic patterns and volume, you don't look at it like it's just you finding the most direct route. There are so many other moving parts--many not apparent to the typical traveller--that there is no way to criticize the plan by looking at a sketch map.

For example, one road may handle volume better than others. They now know how many people are coming in the different categories to go to different areas.

Nor can you use last year as ANY reference other than "there was a problem with X last year, so they will fix it and there won't be X this year.

How long and intensive were the car searches last year at the gates???
