There are many great bars and restaurants in RIC. Some good music venues too like the National and the Landmark. Look for restaurants in The Fan district.

Places I go in the Fan: Strawberry Street Cafe, Edo Squids (Italian), The Village, Sticky Rice, Kuba Kuba, Si, Baja Bean (Mexican), Mekong (best for us beer guys), City Cafe (breakfast).

Shockoe Bottom: McCormacks (Irishy), Tobacco Company (upscale-ish)

Warning: i have broad tastes in food and a lot of tolerance for all levels of service. I'm as at home in a Michelin five star as I am at a street corner hot dog vendor.

I love Buzz and Neds and Mekong! I feel the same way as far tolerance for levels of service (10 years in the restaurant industry will do that to you) and am also happy with food from just about anywhere so long as it's good. I love getting the inside scoop on where to get good eats! Gracias!

What I'm really looking for is a bar or a pub. Maybe a little hole in the wall with surprising good food and better company. A "home base" bar that when I walk in I know and like the crowd. Everywhere I've been so far seems to be filled to the brim with hipsters, buy maybe that's just what carytown is like (that's mostly where I've been hanging out bc of its proximity to my house and my so's love for new York deli).

What I'm really wondering is where do "we" hang out? Where's the family? You know what I'm saying?

I used to live in Richmond and still get there occasionally. I was always partial to The Fan & Shockoe Bottom. Lots of good places as stated above.
